Or maybe he just thought it is such an obvious decision (lets be honest, everybody thought that was the right thing to do and subsequent performances just made that decision look correct) that it wasn't contentious. If Hook took it as "f*ck Gus, how dare he say that, I'll decide what happens", then it says a lot about his fragile self confidence and lack of maturity as a leader. It would also highlight his unsuitability to be a leader because it is all about him. A generally accepted definition of leadership is "the ability to get a group of people to achieve a goal". There are literally thousands of definitions saying the same thing. None of them mention "the ability to get a group of people to achieve a goal and make all the decisions". Why the hell he wouldn't listen to a bloke who has coached SOO is beyond me. If he says the players need resting, is there a chance he could, be right?

On the other hand he could just be old school and thought "harden up and take a cup of concrete" and thought Maloney and Cleary could play through it. He is big on toughness and said the Panthers were too soft until he arrived. Sports science is a bit more sophisticated than "toughen up princess" these days though.

Luai's partner had a baby the day before the game.

Tim Browne — Ruptured bowel — Retired

Sam McKendry — Knee — Season

Josh Mansour — Cheekbone — Round 19-Season

Dylan Edwards — Shoulder — Season

Moses Leota — Pec — Round 18

Peter Wallace — Shoulder — Round 15

Waqa Blake — Ankle — Round 15

Viliame Kikau — MCL — Round 20

May would play but who would be halfback if we rested them? And Centre?

Maybe Gus didn't know the full injury situation maybe he didn't care but all that sort of stuff does is cause drama

Why would Gus not know the injury situation? I doubt theres anything going on at Penrith he doesn't know about.

I disagree

We were in the top 5 for all run meters and post contact meters this season.

We were also tackled in the opposition 20 more than any other side this year according to fox sports, but yeah we definitely couldn't get down the field LOL.

The idea that our forwards got dominated is an absolute myth invented as an excuse for Cleary and Maloney.

How many of those metres were generated by our back 3?

Lol give it up. Tackled in our opposition 20 more than any other side!!!

To really drive the point home that you are wrong here Luke I can tell you that our top two meter gainers this season were Kikau and Yeo, forwards not backs.

Just cop it.

Kikau
Yeo
Dallin
Peachey
Merrin
Tamou

That's the top 6 meter gainers for us in order, Sauce is 7th.

I’m sorry? What am I copping?

I genuinely wanted to know what % of metres gained came from our back three as it relates to an seperate arguement occurring in another thread.

I’ve already told you that I dissagree with you on Maloney, we aren’t having an arguement.

Do you know?

Well its obviously not a very big percentage. There is only one of them in our top 5 metre gainers. You add up the metres and work out the percentage
.

You and others keep saying the forwards got dominated which is flat out crap.

I wonder why it looks that way watching games. Perception Vs fact.

Oh man, we had DWZ, Chricton, Edwards, Luai, Mansour, Phillips and Peachy all play back there. It’s not obvious at all.

If you can’t answer that’s fine. But I’m really not going to engage in arguement with someone like yourself over the performance of our forward pack.

I get it, you think it’s flat out crap. Cool.

Plenty of guys didn't play every game so the total metres will affect that. So can't always use stats either but it is a guide

Exactly. It’s our game plan to use the back three as metre eaters, helps to keep our pack fresh and allows us to run over teams.

Same as kicking early in the set.

The Roosters have done that very well this year to account for their terrible forward pack.

Someone like me? lol f**k you too. You mean someone who tries to back up my opinions unlike yourself who just spurts off rubbish like our forwards weren't doing there job.

Oh and we didn’t have any injuries in the forwards??? LOL you’re arent engaging because you have nothing to engage with.

All you've done is say our forwards got dominated as a defence of Maloney, that's horseshit mate.

Of course its a guide. So is the fact we were top five for total metres gained, top five for post contact metres and number one for tackled in the opposition twenty.

I'd love to see how a team with a shit forward pack racks up all those stats.

https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nr...sAvg=true&category=running&sortBy=tackleBusts

Blake, Edwards, Peachey, Mansour are in the top 50 average tackle busts, Edwards, DWZ, Mansour top 50 Ave Kick return metres.
Edwards, DWZ, Mansour, Edwards top 50 Ave run metres in the comp.

We are 3rd in Kick return metres. 5th in Run metres.

That is what helps bring our stats up.

We are 1st in penalties conceded 2nd in Missed tackles so we lose what we gain.

we apparently did. Hit up then bomb only under hook. Yet we are 14th in 1 pass hitups. 3rd in tackle breaks. 4th in linebreaks. 4th in the general play passing.

So sometimes the stats don't match perception

Top 50 isn’t very high.

I meant no offence, I meant I’m not willing about this subject with a random dude on the Internet who I can’t talk to. I’m sick of talking to people who just continually throw stats and nonsense at a subject.

The stats that you quote, aren’t reflective of the style of football we needed to be playing in order to dominate other teams.

There is more to a game than running metres.

As I said, I prefer these sorts of talks to occur over a beer and few laughs.

It gets boring fast over the net.
