I just feel as if I'm a fair and reasonable person. I have no necessary issue with anyone of any skin colour, sexuality, gender, religion etc. I judge them on who they are as a person, not the pigment in their skin, what they do in the privacy of their own homes, who they pray to etc.

What I have do have an issue with is people, groups etc who want to make others feel as if they are less worthy as human beings. And want to hide behind the Bible or other lame excuses for doing so. I think if I was religious (I'm not an atheist, incidentally), I'd question the logic of a book that says God creates the earth and all in it, but he created people we need to hate on too. And I'd question whether I want to be the sort of person who fuels the condemnation and struggles of minority groups.
Whenever I see religious-fuelled bigotry, it reminds me of this quote from John Lennon's "The Beatles are bigger than Jesus" interview in 1966. (Where he mused on religion losing touch with the young generation)

"Jesus was all right, but his disciples were thick and ordinary. It's them twisting it that ruins it for me."

- John Lennon

This incident happened in the womens AFL

A Muslim AFL player didn’t want to wear the pride jersey for a round
She respectfully said it’s because it clashed with her religious beliefs

The lesbian players in her team were understanding and accepting

No big fuss was made
Based on memory, I may have missed some details

All sounds respectful. Not knowing the details myself, I bet the Muslim woman in question didn’t threaten to boycott but that’s probably because the club consulted the playing group first.

“The Manly club did this without any consultation of the players, they did it without board approval, it didn’t get raised at board level. It’s basically a marketing decision and they just assumed that everything was ok.”

“It’s an embarrassing look for the club and it’s a difficult one. This talk about inclusion - Wearing the Manly jersey for me is inclusion.

“The Manly jersey is there for everybody to wear, there is no prejudice or bias against anyone and Ian Roberts showed that 25 years ago when he came out as a gay man and wore the Manly jersey.

“But to inflict their own political views onto players who may not share that and are now being forced to feel the consequences of that is a real oversight from the Manly club and something they should be embarrassed about.”

A bit cheeky of me to suggest this, but I could almost guarantee you that these homophobes will enjoy sorting themselves off to some lesbian porn tonight.

It's just gay men that they hate.

I’m sure that Muslim woman’s gay teammates were super happy with her stance and totally not forced by the aflw to accept it because she was the first Muslim woman to play aflw. The double standards by the media are shocking
She copped an absolute pasting on her social medias. It was carnage. But yes, they didn't mention it much on the news, just a few news. com articles.

Setting aside all the social issues....

What's concerning to me is that a decision can be made to wear a new jersey as a marketing exercise without apparently any consultation within the club itself.

No wonder we are getting a million bloody jersey variations.

Home, Away, Alternate. Full stop.

Sell the others as training shirts.
