And it has happened. A young player coming up the ranks now feels this way. They know exactly what is happening, even in their young age, and that is that these players will hide their blatant homophobia behind religious beliefs.

Wouldn't it make more sense for this player to speak to those 7 rather than go to the media?

I doubt he is only one. As @Dufmack stated the Islanders in the Penrith club and in the fan base had no issue playing alongside Capewell

Nor have those in the QLD side or at the Broncos. Nor has there been backlash in the Womens game from the Origin kiss

To be a Christian is to believe that the Pope is God’s messenger. As he has said that we should love and welcome everyone regardless of sexual orientation, I’m afraid hiding behind religious beliefs doesn’t wash with me. To do so is to cling on to the old beliefs that even the church has moved on from.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest these blokes aren't Catholic and therefore care about as much as I do about what the pope thinks. I'm not sure if you're aware but there are a huge number of christians that do not believe the pope is the messenger of their god.

Funny how we can be tolerant of gay people but not freedom of religion, or Christianity

I'm a bit surprised by how many people, both here and on social media all take the same side on this. I'm sure some people just want to be outraged

The players clearly, should be given a choice imo, and the problem goes away

They shouldn’t be forced to wear something that contradicts their personal beliefs or religion
If you disagree with those beliefs that’s fine, doesn’t mean everyone needs to conform

Are you putting white supremists and Christians in the same category? That's just a tad of a stretch don't you think ?
The players haven't spoken out with hate speech have they ? If they did it would be a totally different situation.

Obviously it's a complex issue that despite your best efforts can't be solved on a rugby league forum.
They aren't the same category but there's a pretty significant overlap there.

That is how I see it too.

Either you want to be inclusive or not.

Allow players to wear normal or rainbow jersey. Simple really

People are extremely tolerant and understanding of faith - myself included. What people are not tolerant of is bigoted, outdated views.

These boys are cowards. Willing to support the gamblers, the criminals, and the drunks.

I don't think people just want to be outraged, however these boys have made their blatant homophobia so evident.

As much as I loathe FitzSimons and detest the fact that he's willing to give the AFLW player a free pass for doing exactly the same thing, this part is 100% on the money - "But I would mark their papers down as blokes who are never going to win us the premiership, who will bleed for the jersey, clear every hurdle, skirt every obstacle, find a way to win, come what may."

Capewell is not gay.

No but the media ran the story. The majority of stuff like this is better handled behind closed doors

He isn't no but he was in gay porn. Well the NRLW players, There has been no reports of anyone refusing to play with them or anything like that.

FTR I don't agree with the players and think all religion should be banned

People get their morals from various sources, These players get theirs from a book and an imaginary person in the sky. Not sure either party wins in this

I agree. I mean I can’t believe we had to have a plebiscite on whether Christians should be allowed to be married.

Also remember when being Christian was finally legal across all states in Australia in 1994?

Or when Christians were targeted by police with raids only to find absolutely nothing?

Or how about a poor young, closest Christian footballer who feels completely uncomfortable playing in a club knowing a portion of the first grade team do not believe he should be welcomed or included

I can’t believe how intolerant of Christians we have become. How dare we expect that they *checks notes* wear a shirt with a rainbow on it to affirm that all people are accepted in rugby league?

As for the poster who suggest the young Manly player should speak to those 7 players… the player isn’t out and why would he feel comfortable outting himself to players that have no regard for his well-being?
