"Seeing it in a positive light. I fully respect those players choosing not to play and their right not to play, their religious beliefs. I would love, given the opportunity to sit around a table with those guys in the summer conversation with them."

That part nails it from Roberts. Great attitude to have it is the way forward

A bit cheeky of me to suggest this, but I could almost guarantee you that these homophobes will enjoy sorting themselves off to some lesbian porn tonight.

It's just gay men that they hate.

why is this always the go to argument against religious types and sex?

like when SBW refused to wear a gambling sponser, the response wasn’t “oh I bet he secretly has a Queen of the Nile at home”. No one accuses Usman Khawaja of being a closeted alcoholic.

Exactly. Inclusivity isn't a f**king belief, it's a right. Equality is a right. Pride round is not a 'gay agenda' as someone said, it's a movement to achieve equality.

I saw a great post on Twitter, where it said there would be a great irony if Manly go on to lose on the weekend, and the decision of these 7 led directly to a savage beating by 17 Cocks.

do you find the other 15 jerseys on display this weekend exclusive in some way?

inclusivity is also not a right at all in the NRL. It’s an extremely exclusive meritocracy that only grants entry to the absolute best in the sport (plus a few coach’s sons)

would love to see the response of the 7 on that request.

actually, it would be great for the NRL to anonymously poll the RLPA and have any player who would object to a pride jersey be invited to the table along with any player who actively would like a pride jersey as well.

I think the conversation would be a lot more civil and understanding than people think

Yep. Generally if you are putting in 100% in a team sport then it works well. You don't have to be friends with everyone in the team/Workplace but they would all have a respect for each other

I wonder how much consultation is done with players for Women in League jerseys, or ANZAC Jerseys, or the indigenous jerseys, or even the regular home and away jerseys?

It was pretty fun going to a christian boarding school and numerous of the boys were referring to gay dudes as "sinning f*aggot's" but also discussing their favourite videos from welivetogether . com.

That is why I said it.

If all were done with 4 days notice you'd have a point.
Part of the deciding where to play is what jersey they will work

Why the f**k should they be consulted? They’re job is to put the jersey on and give 110% effort on the field.

That is how I see it too.

Either you want to be inclusive or not.

Allow players to wear normal or rainbow jersey. Simple really
I for one would love to see 17 different jerseys used by each team in the same game, so all players are comfortable. May as well get each player to design their own playing strip... might be a nightmare for refs and players to identify who's on what team, but worth a shot.

wasnt the indigenous jersey concept the brainchild of players?

I know teams usually have their indigenous players involved in the designs as they’ll use the art of their people.

Or teams can just have a home and away jersey.

These causes can still be supported by those players who are comfortable with it

yeah fair enough. Plenty of hypocrisy in the religious world but it only ever seems to be pointed on on this topic.

personally I think most of these players are genuine in their opinions and a lot of the religious players do actually live their morals. That still leaves plenty of room to attack them based on those so-called morals.

also, I can appreciate that this topic is obviously a lot more personal to you. im sure it sucks when people try to say opinions that are directly negative towards you need to be respected.

from my view I just see a lot of this pride corporate crap as a very cynical cash grab. Good case in point is manly didn’t seem to have any intention on donating any money from jersey sales to any sort of causes to assist the community they were supposedly trying to support. the club were stumped by that question at their presser
