If they really believe it would be a sin to wear that jersey why dont they they just treat it like the rest of their sins, do it and ask forgiveness after cause there is no way these guys live their lives as the bible tells them, they would doing things the bible tells them not to on a daily basis.
This. They pick and choose the easy bits of the bible to follow.

"I don't know why Manly did this. I don't know why they went to the extra step," Gallen said on Nine's 100% Footy.

"I mean, Women in League round is so important. Every single one of us have been touched by women at some stage in our life: your mother, your missus, something. So, I think Women in League round is so important.

"I don't know why they had to go the extra step and wear the rainbow jersey or the pride jersey. I mean, it's 2022. I think everyone accepts that there are different people in life, people have different beliefs. I don't know why they wanted to promote this, to be honest ... I don't think it's the right thing to do.

"I think Women in League round is so important. They just should have stuck with Women in League round and should have left it at that.

"It's 2022. We know people are different. I don't understand why they had to try to promote it.

"They should have just left it (at) Women in League round, celebrate Women in League round, celebrate all the women in our lives and just get on with it."

Lol. In case anyone doubted that Gallen was a piece of shit, he confirms it right here. What a pillock.

"Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print or tattoo any marks upon you"

Few of the players seem to have missed this memo
If an atheist like me knows that verse directed for the people of that time and doesn't apply today.

I get the feeling Gallen thinks gay people are "different".

Much the way I think Gallen is touched.

"Our culture has accepted two huge lies. The first is that if you disagree with someone's lifestyle, you must fear or hate them. The second is that to love someone means you agree with everything they believe or do. Both are nonsense. You don't have to compromise convictions to be compassionate."

The irony of protesting some small rainbows, whilst POINTSBET is plastered over it.

Yet another bad news story for the AFL states and Union types to trash our great game over.

AFLW had a player do the same, No one can gain any points from this

This is embarrassing. The players need to be told to f**k off to Union or something. They act like They're being told to get involved in homosexual activity. The NRL and it's clubs ABSOLUTELY needs to show that it is inclusive.

For me, all the jersey is saying is "If you're gay, you are also welcome to enjoy the footy along with everyone else.". That's what it's all about, all of us coming together. It's not hard to see that the footy wouldn't have felt very welcoming for a gay man until recently (and it probably still isn't). We need to turn that around. Everyone should be able to go to the footy. If you're someone who doesn't want certain types of people watching the footy, you're a f**kwit.
Well said and completely agree. I think the jersey looks great and at the end of the day it is just a little bit of extra colour that says to the gay community "we see you, we value you, rugby league is a safe environment for you".

The elephant in the room for the NRL in all this and this dates back to their handling of the Folau saga is that every man and his dog knows that those types of "beliefs" are widespread in the NRL, particularly within a certain demographic.

This is where the misunderstanding lies. The pride jersey promotes inclusion, not a minority’s life choice. Expecting a gay person to wear an Islamic symbol representative of a body that not only wants them excluded but also punished is waaaaay totally different.

Do you think there is a single person or group who doesn't feel RL is inclusive? Off the top of my head

The Multicultural Round listed players with heritage in 40 odd countries

There are muslims, Mormons, Non religious people

Married, Single, short, Tall, Fat
Criminals, tossers like Moses

NRLW had the players kiss after origin. So we know there are gay female players

The game is for anyone.

Manly just wanted to flog off a few extra jersey's. In that respect they nailed it

Firstly of all at the moment all jersey (ANZAC, Womens etc) a pretty much horrible looking billbards for sponsors (I.E NSW JERSEY) and a just money spinners for clubs... Which actually do nothing for the actual cause they are promoting. Do the clubs give a percentage of sales to the intended organisations? No?
Secondly, the jersey itself represents inclusiveness for example Broncos supporter who live in Sydney or New Zealanders playing for Queensland. Like give me a brake....

The players in that demographic are becoming larger. So clubs will tread carefully because they have a number of supporters also in the demographic.

No supporter/Player shouldn't feel welcome in the game, So it is tough to navigate

Just have a home and away jersey. Cut all the politics and woke bullshit out. Pretty simple
This.

The rot was set back in 1997 with Parra's M&M's jersey. Regardless of this ploy, how many jerseys is that for Manly so far this season now?

Any initiative clubs/ the league wants to support should be done with special socks/ beanies/ arm bands. Over saturation of sponsors on the club jerseys and all these "one-off" jerseys (in a competition where there are less than 30 rounds in a season) just cheapens the NRL as a brand and the individual clubs as well.

Have to love Gallen's argument here - It's 2022, everyone accepts people are different, we shouldn't promote inclusion. But promote women... Are women not accepted? Am I missing something?

It's up there with the criticism of Manly for not consulting with a bunch of homophobic footballers.

As a catholic you surely missed the mark I am atheist but went to a cathotlc school and I know for a fact Bible outlaws homosexuality. 1 Romans 27, 1 Timothy 1:10 to name a few. Even as an atheist I now what quoted in Leviticus was a covenant for that period and don't apply today. I have so much respect for these men willing to miss such a crucial game in the season for their beliefs. If there was a an Islamic symbols of Jerseys I will have no issues for a gay person not wanting to wear it.

No, Skeepe is correct. As a practicing Catholic and Religious Education teacher in a Catholic school. Romans and Timothy don't talk about homosexuality. Romans says "unnatural acts" which is taken to mean the Greek and Roman practice of group orgies with young boys and Timothy says "sodomites" it wasn't until very recently that the term "sodomite" came to be a derogatory term for homosexuals. If you read Sodom and Gomorrah it never says that the people in those cities were gay, it says they were immoral and has been translated by scholars (see: not random happy clappers who deny pretty much everything except what lets them make money) to mean rape and other forms of sexual assault.

Putting your incomplete sentence aside, if context is important for that particular verse then why does that not apply to the rest of the texts?

E.g. we know that jewish and islamic texts that specify that pork products should not be consumed is likely to be linked to the fact that a lot of illness was from the fact it was more likely to be undercooked and risk parasitic infections.

Why do we assume that there isn't the similar historical context for rules surrounding homosexuality? Again, it's simply people picking and choosing what suits them rather than adherence to religious dogma.

Peter Fitzsimons is going to have a field day with this in his Thursday column (if in fact he can wait that long for his editor to publish it).... An anti-gay stance by rugby league players ticks 2 of his soapbox boxes....
a) Anti-gay stance
b) An anti-gay stance by Christians
c) Anti-gay stance by Christians who play Rugby League

Pirate Pete will be FROTHING
