Outstanding performance, couldn’t be happier. The score line doesn’t reflect our total dominance.

MOM toss up between Yeo and Edwards.
Killer, you have to focus on the standard of player running onto to the pitch.

SOS was a reserve grade benchie having to take over from Nathan Cleary.

Imagine the pressure?

All the talent of boiled turnip. Diet Coke money.

And he iced it and showed up SOO DCE.

You can’t go past his all round performance.

It shows what good structure can do. He slotted in and did exactly what he needed to. The only blot was the dumb intercept attempt on half time. I can forgive it though, he was great apart from that.

The inward step by Critter before catching the ball for his try was great to see.

Locked up that side in defence too.

The left edge is just pure power now.

Edwards had been shitting on some of my hot takes since the finals begun last year. Eliminated the errors and got off a few clean passes tonight.

I take my hat of to Dylan Edwards. The guy is a freak. He is never going to be spoke about in the same terms as Tommy T, Latrell, Tedesco etc but tonight he was just a beast. He was everywhere with the ball and without it. Whatever we are paying him, he is underpaid. I know he has had on going injury issues, but when fit and available he is as good as any fullback. 9/10 tonight.

This will be the first loss in a number you will have endure this year because it’s seems r&r didn’t get their sums right and were garrotted by greedy player agents.

Against that, you took full advantage of your window last year with plenty of courage and a touch of luck.

I’m afraid, you’re just going to have to face that the cycle of league-the possibility that human like the rest of us.

Look on the bright side, you will come to enjoy wins with far more vigour.

You’ve had a grand few years, the wonder of smug.

But what the league doth gives us, she taketh away. She is a cruel and heartless mistress.

My advice would be to chill a bit and respect thy footy Gods.

4 points from the first 6 rounds until Nate is back. There will plenty of pressure to rush him back, but that would be very unwise.

Tonight promises to be an wholly unmitigated disaster. The last rites are being given now.

Better to have smugged and lost than to never have smugged at all.

Anything less than an 18 point drubbing should be seen as promising and a victory of sorts.

Oh dear................. 😂

All you need to know about O Sullivan is that at his best, he’s incompetent and players to his side will be kept busy and distracted because he can’t tackle to save himself. Nothing personal, all players have my respect.

For him, it’s a question of saving life and limb against a severe and unrelenting pounding by unthinking lumps of labotomised raw meat seeking him out to punish him for the crime of his meek footballing existence.

That means panic kicks to Turbo who will be looking to slice through the unwitting kids in the backs, like a hot knife into butter.

Poor Dylan will be run off his feet. In a way it’s much better for smug to have a specialised defending fullback in a match like this. He will handle himself ok or die trying.

This game is going to put ten years on his life.

The other option for smug might be “plan b” which is basically to institute a stop start spoiling game. Mess them around as much as possible, bring on penalties and the hate, break their resolve. Play the chaos.

Speaking of Tommy T, where was he tonight? The alleged best player in the world against the premiers in round 1 and he was invisible.

He is a bigger myth than Ponga.

Ponga atleast talks in defence. Turbo did nothing

Just on the much maligned Charlie Staines I thought he tried his heart out tonight. He did not once shirk the hard yards and I thought he had a very good game, something to build on, particularly given he never got any real attacking opportunities. No blame can be attributed to him in respect of the sole manly try. I think I may have read someone suggesting he could or should have made the tackle but realistically not too many players would have made a try saving tackle in that situation. I thought he had a good game.

His issue last year was lack of involvement. He upped that tonight whether he gets to the level to make the spot his is the question

Footy is a basic game. Ivan outfoxed himself last year

Having a 7 play 7 is much better then moving Luai or putting May there

Tago was great.
Staines looks a bit more athletic and ran that hit harder which was awesome.
Yeo was just phenomenal, he’s surely climbing into the top handful of players in the game fullstop at this point.
SOS just the perfect back up halves game.
Leota I though had nice punch.in his runs.
Edwards obviously just a freak.
Api also looked as crafty and electric as I can remember.

Broadly, great to see the hunger and energy is still off the charts, our attack was pretty dangerous including the right side and it just looks like they are up for it across the squad.

Not true mate. We didn’t give him a sniff. Our defence was outstanding. The guy is a freak, but somehow or another we nullified his impact. Says more about us than him.

he will have similar games v Storm, Roosters and possibly Parra

He is easy to keep out of it due to being lazy.

I spent a good 5 mins watching both Fullbacks and the contrast was huge

Edwards spent the whole set directing the defence line and moved along with the ball and as such he was better positioned to start our sets well

Tom Turbo on the other hand planted himself middle of the field 30mins behind the ruck. No communication or following the ball

That is why he is kept out against the top teams

Let’s just rejoice. I just think we put on a really outstanding performance for 79 minutes. The try on half time had the potential to give them a lift but we got back to business and snuffed them out. Tonight was a great performance.

From my sofa tonight Charlie looked great. He looks to have put on some lean muscle. Defended quite well. Was prepared to do some dirty carries, and was involved throughout. Unlucky not to score a try too.

He will make the wing his spot in this team. Well done Charlie Staines.

That’s why I qualified his outing with “ all round” performance, adding the balance.

Theres people here trying to invoke objective measures such as metres made and tackles.

You can rely on your structure such as kicking to Saab all night and everyone except Des picked it up in 2 seconds and the Saab experiment wasn’t working. It was like watching an electrocution with the offender refusing to die.

But in my view, the courage and heart of the game belongs to SOS and no one else. From merkin to miracle.

Another 5 games to go before Nate is back hes duly de-smugged. That’s what he’s expecting.

If Nate was available next week, I’d give him another week off.

But whatever bastard team turned up against you, it shamed the Northern Beaches.

Des will be in trouble all week. It was embarrassing.

That was their worst game in 5 years, no question.

Saints will be a better test of resolve.

Mate, we didn’t give them a sniff. They tried, they tried very hard, trust me I was at the game, our defence just gave them no easy metres at any stage.
