Mate, we didn’t give them a sniff. They tried, they tried very hard, trust me I was at the game, our defence just gave them no easy metres at any stage.
Ok, I will accept that.

I heard someone describe it as “ a long drawn out choking occasioning death” something like that.

lol.

Anyway, bit of a surprise start to the season, ✅

It wasn't a surprise to anyone who watches Penrith reserve grade. Anyone who's watched Tago play could have told you Tago's a gun, that wierd shit you were going on about how the the all the Penrith backs were kids and they were going to lose because never make any sense.

Literally the year we won the premiership our outside backs barely had any games between them in comparison to other teams.

Edwards: 344m
Staines: 178m
To'o: 163m
Total: 685

Turbo: 155m
Saab: 53m
Garrick: 98m
Total: 306m

"Fastest backline in the game".

We also have May as an extra option just in case. Kind of mind blowing looking at the big picture.

A lot of this is down to our defence. Besides early in the first half when we gave away some penalties we kept manly kicking from deep in their own half almost every time, our backs can pick it up and run 20-30m plus before the defence gets to them and the we kick from deep into their half and out defence is on them straight away. Our back 3 were awesome particularly edwards but without our defensive line aiming up the numbers would be a bit more even.

Also Bizza lowest total metres in our back 3 but he fell just short of Edwards for pct metres, I think dyl had 105 and biz had 96 so still hard to handle on a quieter night. Staines was almost 3rd in the side with 73 pct but fish just beat him by two metres.

Yeah of course. We've seen Tom against worse defence and why he looks as good as he does. Manly last year struggled against good teams.

Manly missed a trick not going that side more. As good as To'o is high ball isn't his strength

Throw in a rookie centre and running Kiks ragged so can't attack

Turns out Edwards broken foot just brings him back to normal human levels.

Also I pointed out Staines because it's something he struggled with 12 months ago. Those guys are beasts regularly.

Staines issue was lack of involvement

Still had no line breaks or tackle busts but 15+ runs is fine for a winger.

I was a bit worried about our fitness after that parra trial and the fact we had a short preseason and a number of our big guys played no trials like Yeo, fish marto, also with Knowles leaving but looked great last night. That defensive effort was brilliantly and will win us most of our games this year if it stays consistent.

We train well. I am not concerned with the top guys the fringe guys are those who need game time

In the press conference Cleary said he isnt sure, jammed his shoulder(obviously) but said he has trouble with that shoulder anyway. Have to wait for scans and all that

The positive is we get a look at the next tier guys with JFH and Yeo still in the side
