After a season like no other has come a pre-season like the old days.
The cut in each of the 18 AFL clubs football department’s spend from $9.7 million per year to $6.2 million has seen staff numbers slashed to levels they haven’t been since the ’90s.
Roughly 70-80 per cent of the $9.7 million spent each year went on salaries and the cuts have been across the entire department. Administration, medical, conditioning and welfare have all taken a hit. The cost-cutting has come mostly at the expense of very good people.
