2023-2028 next tv deal discussion

Typical of these people. Only interested in public concerns during the lead up to an election.
Are the clubs interested in pushing forward with a merger? The demise of Wests Panthers hasn’t helped in the Indro/Centenary Suburbs area, although there is a junior club at Graceville
I haven't heard any mention of merging the three clubs over the last decade.

Are the Souths Graceville Hounds linked with the Normanby Hounds?

Webster doesn’t like vlandys much

the interesting bit is where vlandys said we will be rengotiating soon and they have a few surprises

I wonder which it will be

1. team 18
2. Monday night football
3. 4 x 25 minute quarters

if they did the latter it would result in a massive spike in their value
Are you naive enough to still believe anything the charlatan says after this fiasco?

V'landys has no credibility and will forever be known as the biggest dickhead in the history of Australian sport.

That is the issue with those fools saying to just put teams in places like Adelaide to get more TV money, need to get the behind the scenes stuff sorted. Is 3 years after Dolphins enough?

Maybe 5. Still is in the next TV period
Or we could do what any sane and responsible sports body would do and relocate small dead-weight clubs from Sydney to Adelaide, Perth and Brisbane. Tigers to Brisbane with the licence going to the Easts Tigers would be a good start. At least they'll be owned by a club that bears their mascot. Brisbane Tigers. Cronulla to Perth. West Coast Sharks. Manly to Adelaide. Adelaide Sea Eagles.

So you move a club from where it has corporate support, Juniors and a fan base to somewhere that may or may not be able to sustain a team?

Just to increase one part of the revenue pie?

How much corporate support do these clubs have?

Last year the Sharks collected just $4m from their sponsors. Compare that to the Cowboys ($8.9m) and Broncos ($12.7m).

I liked the end of the article where he quoted the Tigers chairman stating that they were going to win.

Appropriate link to explain the delusion that is obviously apparent in some of the management of the game

My preference is this.

In the next two to three years, have ongoing dialogue and good relationship building with potential bidders such as Paramount and Amazon Prime. At around 2025 or 2026, announce Perth as the 18 team, who will come in the comp in 2028.

As for the 'significant gap years' of 2025-2027, the game just needs to cop it's medicine for dealing at the wrong time. Also bring in people in the commission who have experience in negotiating media rights and let PVL and a couple of others go. In 2025 or 2026, go through a tender process in the marketplace and give everyone an equal opportunity. And who knows, maybe for the first time, the game might find it's true value.

However, the NRL most likely will do this unfortunate scenario. PVL and majority of the commission will stay put. The NRL will be reactionary by bringing in an 18th team in a bit early, like 2026 into the comp. It may not be Perth, but it's beside the point.

The NRL will go back to the broadcasters saying that we are going to have an 18 team comp, with an extra game per week in the years 2026-2027. The NRL will be doing this as a way to reduce the gap.

However, Nine/Fox may renegotiate the existing contracts of '26- '27 to fit in an extra game, on the proviso that the NRL extends until 2032, another 5 years, and therefore not allowing the NRL to go through a tender process in the marketplace. Also the new contract is still significantly less than the AFL.

Nine and Fox will argue that they won't find a better deal elsewhere. NRL says ok. And then the commission along with Nine/Fox will triumphantly make it out to be the richiest media rights deal in the NRL's history.

And how sad would that be....
Sadly I think you have nailed exactly what will happen If vlandys and his hand puppet stay in charge.

Yep I can see that exactly being the case. We need to get rid of the useless pair and new commision, announce perth in for 2028 by investing in nrlwa now and start negotiations in 2026. Get digital back up and running properly. Get full 18 club nrlw happening.
The boat has sailed we will ever catch up to afl so for the next two decades it’s going to be damage limitation. Realistic Goal should be $500-550 mill next deal.

It also means that Pay had gone $430 million (roughly) although that also depends on whether they included Telstra (although that it is still around the 400’s)

They obviously got over that cold really quick. Good work V’Landys - they have low balled us again and given that money to the competition

This is telling:
But McLachlan had an important ace up his sleeve. He knew that while he needed a big deal, media players were facing their own existential crisis without the game.

So whilst Vlandys did his desperate mates a favour and sold them the rights well below value, the afl ceo knew they were all desperate for major sport content and could be held over a barrel.

the scale of this f**k up by Vlandys is off the charts.

I don't think it's fair to judge the value of The Dolphins on the suspicious deal V'landys signed with News Ltd. That's solely on him and proves he's either incompetent or corrupt. If we had a proper negotiator we would have got a lot more, with or without The Dolphins. Ch9/News Ltd were never going to pay the market rate when they were dealing with a clown who is incompetent on corrupt.

I think V'landys and News Ltd should be investigated to see if there's anything suspicious going on that influenced the deals.
Come off it mate, V’Landy doesn’t look dodgy at all.

Well congratulations to Nine/Fox and another f***you to V’Landys. They got an absolute bargain.
Why didn’t you buy the rights then? Do you actually think the people charged with these types of deals are stupid? Are you smarter? If only you were were there man, things would be very different.

One thing I know is V’Landy’s isn’t stupid, very, very good operator, appeals strongly to the NSW knuckle draggers with his anti Victorian/AFL rhetoric, he play’s you like fiddles, done incredible things with NSW racing, actually it’s mind boggling what he’s achieved with NSW racing taking the crown from Victoria, he is the best CEO the NRL have had but even he can’t sell ice to an Eskimo, but if anyone could it’s him.
