2023-2028 next tv deal discussion

You really think they are going to upgrade a contract to the extent of or even close to the fumbleball one? They are under no obligation to do so and according to reports they explicitly rejected the insertion of a clause that would have enforced them to pay the same as they did fumbleball. It’s not their fault Vlan idiot agreed to sign it.

V’landys got played big time.
answer a question ... with a question often ?

thats not what I asked
I asked whether you've never heard of a contract being renegotiated or upgraded
answer , of course you have because it happens in all walks of life all the time
Will it happen here .... lets see
While foxtel are under no obligation legally to do anything , i think they will need to tread carefully considering the implications if they don't
If the NRL feel they were dudded & played as you say , then they will act at the appropriate time , which will be when the time comes for the next deal to be hammered out.
Good luck to foxtel trying to get a look in if they refuse to honor an agreement , verbal written or otherwise.

Yes. Which they should still be doing. I recall when the Reds came in the ARL played numerous games over 5 Years to build interest then gave them a team.

It wouldn’t be a terrible idea for both Perth and Adelaide so long as you eventually give them a team

Undecided on Perth but Adelaide would be the Stalingrad moment for the NRL (in the same way the Giants was for the AFL).

It's like another universe, there's no coverage of any rugby code at all, and that won't change no matter how much money you put into it.

The AFL have gone from strength to strength since adding GWS though. Also the cost of an NRL team is an order of magnitude less than that of an AFL team.

Aren't their crowds down though? Also the record broadcast deal is partly the result of inflation and the fact that Seven and Fox need the content. Seven has virtually no programming except the AFL and Home and Away at this point. Would likely go under without AFL.

How is that a Stalingrad moment? The AFL is in a far better position now than it has ever been. If adding Adelaide the NRL does that I’ll take it.

I was a bit like you previously regarding Adelaide but you have to look at the fact that their crowds were better than a fair few teams in Sydney and that’s with a crap side.

Perth is a no brainer really. Fast growing population, massive corporates and a great time slot for TV. They should be the next one in if we actually give a you know what about TV money.

When the giants came in all the AFL heads said this is it, the death of rugby league. NRL won't survive when GWS starts getting 80k crowds a week.

What a bunch of clowns

Yep it’s the 5000 watching the giants in Sydney that has made the afl go from strength to strength

this is one of the funniest things I’ve read on this forum

As much as Id like to see a Perth team I feel it wil be NZ 2. Besides an origin game which is every 3rd year because the govt pay for it does the NRL do anything else in Perth?
Not a lot.
WA Govt bought 2 games a year for 3 years in 2020 (Roosters and Dogs games) but fell through due to covid.
NRL funds NRLWA around $750k a year.
Sends over ambassadors to regional areas as part of mental health community programs they are funded for.
Aside from that nothing else really.

You are spot on about the giants

but the afl are too stupid or arrogant to realise this so will spend another billion on them for zero return

probably one of the worst expansion teams in Australian sporting history and that includes the hunter mariners

Did they, really? I dont think anyone thought Giants would be an instant or even medium term success. It was team nobody was asking for in an area no one wanted them. If they can eventually carve out a market share remains to be seen. And guess what, it certainly hasn't harmed their tv negotiations has it?!
Reality is they are saturated in their home markets so to increase their content for sale and expand their national footprint an perception as national sport Qlnd and Sydney were obvious choices, particularly given how well the Swans and Lions have done.
It has helped them get record sponsorship deals and record Tv deals so spending $50-60mill on them is nothing.

Cant say I've ever heard of one being upgraded with nothing expected in return!

a young player signs a contract when hes a prospect , turns out to be a gun
wants to be rewarded in the life of the contract he signed when he was a prospect
happens all the time

what foxtel will get in return for honoring the verbal agreement to look after the NRL for taking less during covid & when they were able to ( which is now ) is getting a fair run at the 28-32 deal

if its no to looking after the NRL now
then the NRL's response to that 2nd bit will be the same ...... no
