Haha
All we have is rumours though that is my point

Take the AFL deal, The AFL themselves have said it includes Telstra but no party ( RIghtfully as it is 2 years aways ) has said what the updates are worth.
Hell even Ch7 has only said they are paying 20% extra so even that means you need to speculate what 20% extra is.

So to get TV deal being FTA/Pay tv and compare to NRL's the same. It can't be done yet when it can be compared

NRLW will have a schedule and able to be sold

Test matches too - Abdo said he wants 4 tests in a 5 week period post season.

We will know team 18 and then can compare the 2
they have literally said it’s worth $4billion cash! How much clearer would you like it?

It should be enough for him to be shown the door so he doesn’t get to negotiate another sht extension before 2028!
I mean he has literally cost the game hundreds of millions! We’ve seen ceos and chairs sack d from nrl fir a lot less!

I agree. I’m just saying that because the deals have been signed there is nothing nobody could do now

Nine Entertainment is understood to be exploring a partial sale of its streaming business Stan after unsuccessful efforts to buy AFL broadcasting rights and a major contract loss.

From that article :

Stan and Nine missed out on winning the broadcast rights to the AFL, won last month by existing contract holders Foxtel and Seven, in what is the most lucrative television sports deal in Australia.

Also bidding for the $3bn contract was Ten and Paramont+, both owned by US broadcasting company CBS.

The " $3bn contract " ????

They (Paramount) were offering $600m a year for five years. It’s just bad journalism

@Hank_Scorpio Happy to criticise when have all the facts, What people choose to ignore is the NRL deal is changing.

They are looking at the NRL deal and AFL deal as they sit. There are 2 seasons before it kicks in.
Already The Dolphins coming in has added $20m to the deal announced last year.

If the AFL deal starts with no change to the NRL, I will join in the TV Deal bashing but too soon
Idiots are comparing afl future tv deal that Doesn’t start for two years and has close to 100 mill pa on contra with the current nrl tv deal which is pretty much the same as fumble ball

When we renogiaate like they just did there’s a strong chance we will get more cash than they did

they can keep that contra bs and put it in the rubbish bin where it belongs

Good on him, because Wb ain`t go to roll over and lap up how good is everything is for fumbleball like a lot of other suckers are around here. He`ll keep fighting the good fight until we come out on top and he`ll be the one who will be able to hold his head up and know he stuck by the League through thick and thin. Keep up the good fight Wb.
Thanks that’s nice of you to say

reality is I’m nowhere near the fan I was ten years ago but rugby league has given me so many amazing experiences over 40 years it’s the only sport I retained an interest in

lots of the people that post on the expansion and tv forums aren’t your normal rugby league fans I’m guessing they are more casual fans

I remember the period 88 to 95 when we rugby league was bulletproof and afl was a joke. Since super league the games leaders have had no b@lls and were willing to stand around watching whilst afl spent billions in nsw and qld

finally we’ve got an old school leader who gets it and is going to get the game back where it was in the golden years

he won’t stop at 18 teams he will go for 20. That would dwarf afl. Heck they can’t even match us now

We know that Ch9 paid $115 cash and $10m contra per annum between 2018-22, but got a discount due to COVID-19 that revised it to $103.5 cash and $15m per annum until the end of 2022.

Nine Entertainment has signed a $650 million, five-year deal with the NRL, returning the value of the broadcast rights of the ruby league competition to pre-pandemic levels.

...

The deal compares with the 2018-2022 contract, announced in November 2015, of $115 million in cash plus $10 million in contra, however is an improvement on the COVID-19-adjusted 2022 cost of $103.5 million, plus $15 million in contra.20 Dec 2021

Ch9 are now paying $130m cash and $15m contra per annum between 23-28. The cash component is the same and the contra is worth another $5m of commercials promoting the sport.

Ch7 has made a significant increase to the amount they pay AwFuL between 25-31.

We also know from the NRL 2021 Annual Report that contra for NRL last year was $24.5m.

That’s a ridiculous assumption. Just because some people can clearly see that V’Landys f***** up a TV deal and don’t just slavishly believe everything he says, doesn’t mean we are lesser fans than those that do.

It is like anything. If somebody stuffs up, they should be held accountable.

You wanted him sacked based on the afl announcing a tv deal, which you don’t even understand the mechanics of, but feel confident enough the nrl did a bad deal bc that’s what the internet told you is a fact

there’s so much positive rugby league financial news which you have to ignore fully which you and others have

Lol wtf are you on. 3 billion was Paramounts bid for the AFL. It wasnt the final deal.

As stated in numerous news reports and from the CEO of the AFL. 4.5b is the AFL deal.

mate you dont even understand the mechanics of the AFL deal and float with whatever media article agrees with you on the day,

The NRL did an extended deal at a time when it simply wasnt required. And according to Vlandys it was to make sure that the broadcasters stayed financially viable for the sake of the future.

I don’t ignore it fully. You can go back and look at posts where I have actually stated that the game making a profit is a good thing. Good on him for that.

The difference between you and me seemingly; however, is that I can actually criticise the bloke when he makes mistakes.

As another poster Hank Scorpio stated earlier in the thread, just because I and others want to criticise V’Landys doesn’t mean we don’t love the game; actually I would suggest it is the inverse because as we care about it so deeply we want it to become the major code in Australia.

Anyway, if you want to believe that the deals aren’t significantly different, despite all evidence to the contrary, then that’s your prerogative. I think it is a chance for us to wake up and take ourselves seriously for once, particularly as we rate higher than them.

Also do you understand the mechanics of it? As based on your own logic you shouldn’t be able to comment on it either

You know nrl clubs were losing approx 60 mill pa collectively and now because of him they all make profits ?

that’s a turnaround of around 100 million extra to clubs

the game is flush with money. Yet all you ever here on here is how afl signed this make believe record tv deal lol

pass

Plus there loads and loads more good rugby league financial news which is just ignored
