So according to that telstra are paying $15mill a year for naming rights and some internet content.

where as AFL are getting $12mill for just internet content (and around $18.5mill a year for naming rights from Toyota).

hmmmm.
hang on,
you're casting a raised eye brow over the NRL's new deal with telstra yet conveniently ignoring the AFL's new deal with telstra which has plummeted from 50 million a year
to 12 million

no wonder people laugh at you & your ridiculous bias

& again
this " claim " by the AFL that their deal has risen from 418 million a year , to 473 Million for 2023 & 2024
with foxtel stating publicly they aren't tipping in much more & Telstra's amount reduced hugely leaves us with a puzzling question

how ?
how is the deal increasing by 55 million a year ?
who is putting in the extra amount to get it to that figure ?

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm indeed

You’re avoiding the question of why our package is half the value, it’s not dodgeball here.

At least we’ll know for sure when their annual reports come out, unlike ours which remains well buried with no accountability for the deal done.

15 million

AFL naming rights & ALL mobile content

the apples V apples content would be much closer

Nope, as usual you are incorrect. The telstra coverage is pretty much the same with highlights and replays for both codes. Kayo will have exclusive streaming rights to live games for both codes.

you cant justify afl getting $18.5mill for naming rights alone whilst nrl can only achieve $15mill for naming rights AND telstra mobile content. Reality is afl got $30.5mill a year and we only got $15mill. It’s a sht result for us.

The reality is NRL, Thanks to some smart buissiness decsions will declare a large profit this year. While the AFL will be in the red for the next 5 years and hopefully longer.

I can feel a But But But coming on.

$50m is the word.

crazy after the added cost of moving the comp. Origin in smaller venues etc

Good result all things considered. Especially given the reduced media funding Vlandys agreed to. Expected reduced grass roots funding ($43.5mill reduction in ‘20 due to covid) and two origin series revenues would certainly have helped the bottom line.

Perth red when anything bad is said about the AFL
So what’s your thoughts on afl getting double the revenue of nrl for telstra and naming rights? Come on don’t be shy. Add something to the conversation for a change. what do we need to do to be able to attract the same level of corproate revenue? BasEd on what we know it looks like Toyota paid $15.5 million a year more for afl naming rights compared to what Telstra is paying for nrl.

Theres a lot of little battles along the way , you can't win them all.

The problem is we don’t win any of the battles really. The result though is neither good for the NRL (only earning half of what the AFL does) nor the AFL (suffering a massively drop in their revenue).

On the profit/loss aspect, it depends on the revenue and projected revenue, your expenses (how far you can cut them over a short term/long term basis before it impacts on your future profitability) and what your position was prior to that year.

For all we know, cutting development costs substantially in order to obtain profit might impact revenue in the long term (less talent in the competition) particularly when junior development is often criticised. Inversely, AFL might not have cut costs because they can wear short term pain and are banking on much higher revenue coming in.

only good ?
hahaha

it was an outstanding result
The AFL also cut a huge amount of funding to its grass roots & layed off heaps of development officers but still announced a 30 million dollar loss in 2020 & indications are 2021 will be similar

they should be ringing Vlandys & seeking his advice on how to achieve results like he has IMO
