santa claus being real is more believable then the afls figure of 470 mill hahahaha
Again devil will be in the detail and how much of that is cash.
2019 they brought in $397mill cash and $16mill contra.

that year our broadcast revenue was $325mill and $24.5 mill contra.

A $72mill cash gap. Let’s hope the figures aren’t correct or they’ve maintained that gap.

shame we won’t be able to measure it thanks to Vlandys and his puppet hiding the figures.

On the Ch9 deal, they do get the regular season quite cheaply. By all estimates SOO is worth $30mill a year so in effect Ch9 are paying $85mill cash a year for the nrl season. Optus is paying more than that for EPL streaming in Oz And ch7 pay afl around $140mill!
This is a good point and one that always does my head in. The NRL comp is comparable to the AFL comp in ratings, plus we have the ratings bonanza that is State of Origin on top of that and we aren't able to negotiate a better TV deal.

In the old deal, yes the AFL beat us with cash and contra. Yearly they got 416/ or 417 per year. This was made up from Fox $216 pa,- Seven Network 150m,- and Telstra 50m ( for phone /tablet streaming) for a total of $2.5billion over SIX YEARS. This six year contract made the the AFL look like it won by a lot. It's old news that the deal for the NRL was 'botched' as in to many side deals, giving back licensing back, etc , BUT our deal was over FIVE YEARS which masked that we were closing in on the AFL. NOW lets look at the new deal which this thread is all about.
First it was announced yesterday that the NRL will have over $400 million dollars yearly from 2023 to 2027. This is the same year that the AFL deal comes into effect. Lets compare annual amounts.

NRL--Nine $130m,- SKy 32m,- which would leave Fox paying $238m for a total of over $400 million.
AFL--Seven $150, plus Fox $216m to equal $366m total for the years 2023/2024

"This extension with Foxtel and Telstra, along with the extension we signed with the Seven Network earlier this year, ensures that we are able to not only rebuild our game but take it to more and more people," McLachlan said.

"The deal represents a 25 per cent increase on the revised rights agreement the AFL struck with Foxtel because of the pandemic, but is only slightly higher than the original deal."

Of note their is no money from telstra to inflate the AFL figures this time, as the Aust fin Reveiw noted,

Telstra and Foxtel have announced a new commercial partnership that will involve Foxtel’s streaming service Kayo Sports replacing the telco’s incumbent AFL and NRL Live apps.
The partnership to replace live streaming across the two apps means customers will be able to watch 50 different sports rather than just one code. This also means the telco will no longer bid directly for sports content rights.

Thier is talk of Teltra doing 5G at grounds running websites BUT/NEVER talk of cash.
So we finally won, it's been a slog but the negotiations skills of Vlandy, doing deals in the correct order, getting rid of low cost steamers, Telstra, so nine can show it on Nine now, made a better enticment, however a by product of this decision went a long way for Telstra to exit streaming for the AFL ( a side punch by Vlandy) which lessened the AFL revenue by $50m. Yeh they always go on about the afl ninth game and more advertising time in afl games as justification for the gap but we have origin that’s supposed to be worth $30mill A year and more viewers!

Thats very nice wishful thinking but highly unlikely. For starters telstra paId for the digital revenue they get from the afl websites, not just the streaming. It was quoted in the age they will continue to pay $50mill. This is where the value is for them:

“Telstra will also expand its visual sponsorship elements such as on-field Telstra 5G signage, and continue the development of the AFL's digital assets such as AFL.com.au, club websites and the AFL Official LIVE App. The updated sponsorship also deepens Telstra's connections to AFL Clubs and extends the agreement with the AFL Players Association that engages all listed players as ambassadors for use in social marketing campaigns and other initiatives.”

if you think their ceo has gone public with a massively inflated figure just for show you dont really understand how the corporate world works. $55million jump for 23&24 (around 13% increase on last deal) is a reasonable hike though so I get your suspicions.

I’d suggest their cash deal is probably same or slightly up as last deal, same as ours will be, and most of the $55mill increase they are laying claim to will be in contra, like a lot of our increase from nz and Ch9 I suspect.

but we will see, at least we will be able to see theirs unlike ours which will remain buried away in a multitude line item in the annual report. We have even stopped reporting what is cash and what is contra. Vlandys is a murky barsteward!

Telstra didnt fully leave streaming, just not live matches - it likely needs highlight and replay rights for its operation of AFL.com.au (which it also receives the advertising revenue for as a Telstra asset, not an AFL one). Telstras side of the AFL deal - which you evidently believe is free - includes
  • Telstra continues its partnership through the 2023 and 2024 seasons, with highlight, replay and on demand rights while increasing their investment in sponsorship assets.
  • Telstra will become Marvel Stadium’s official technology and innovation partner over the next four years, ensuring the revamped Marvel Stadium offers supporters the best digital experience of any stadium or entertainment venue in the country and ensuring supporters have the technology to connect them to the game they love.
  • Telstra technology and connectivity will be deployed at Marvel over the next few years including fixed and 4G/5G networks upgrades, Artificial Intelligence, and mixed reality and edge computing. From booking a seat to parking to engaging with the game, attendees will soon be able to experience a new stadium experience before, during, and after they attend the game.
  • Telstra will also expand its visual sponsorship elements such as on-field Telstra 5G signage, and continue the development of the AFL’s digital assets such as AFL.com.au, club websites and the AFL Official LIVE App. The updated sponsorship also deepens Telstra’s connections to AFL Clubs and extends the agreement with the AFL Players Association that engages all listed players as ambassadors for use in social marketing campaigns and other initiatives.
The Age specifically reported that Telstra would continue to pay $50m a year.

Every article Ive found cites the 946m two year figure. EVERY article. Ive not found one that disagrees with it, or reduces it in any way. That includes Masters yesterday.

Proof will be in the annual reporting - the AFL still reports its broadcast revenue unlike the NRL.

The AFL said the deals with Foxtel, Telstra and Seven were together worth $946 million over the 2023 and 2024 seasons. Seven is paying just under $300 million of that figure.

I haven't seen anything anywhere , where its been confimed the amount telstra are paying for maintaining a few websites & replays as opposed to having the exclusive rights to live streaming
but yea
they're about as valuable as each other eh ?
In Ga Ga land hahahaha

They wouldn't be paying nothing no , but they aint paying 50 mill PA , no way no how. I'd value this fluff rubbish at about 50 million for the entire deal I'd like to see this quote in the age .....
&
so you think most of the extra 55 million a year might be contra ?
Thats still a cost to foxtel & i'll remind you again
Foxtel have confirmed they're not paying much more then the original amount in the 2017-2022 deal.
Thats
not much more

your pathetic attempts to have us believe this fairytale is hilarious tho..... do keep theorising where this significant increase might be coming from
You'll be at leprechauns & a pot of gold under a rainbow next hahaha

Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) and the Australian Rugby League Commission have reached an agreement to extend their partnership for Audio Broadcast Rights until 2027.
The new partnership from 2023 to 2027 includes broadcast rights across the Triple M Network and LiSTNR, including:
• Exclusive commercial broadcast of four NRL Home and Away Matches each week
• State of Origin, Representative Matches and NRL Finals Series
• NRL Women’s Premiership, Nines and All Stars
SCA will also for the first time be able to broadcast in its Regional Markets, covering every home and away match for their local team.
“We are absolutely delighted to renew our partnership with the NRL which is an important pillar in our sport offering on the Triple M network and LiSTNR. We not only look forward to continuing to deliver the best audio commentary of each game but importantly continue to produce a suite of premium pre-game and post- game commentary and entertainment for the NRL community and our valued listeners” SCA CEO, Grant Blackley, said.
“This partnership is a great outcome for our fans,” said NRL chief executive, Andrew Abdo.
“Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) has been an excellent partner in promoting our game and broadcasting additional content beyond game day coverage and this expanded deal will take that to a new level. So many of our fans rely on radio networks like Triple M to access and enjoy the Telstra Premiership and we are looking forward to ways in which we can work together over the coming seasons to further innovate the listening experience. This partnership is a particularly great outcome for our regional fans with every Raiders, Knights, Titans and Cowboys home game to be broadcast live.”
The partnership builds on a relationship that now extends over 20 years and allows a continued focus to grow the game.

How much of the AFL's 2 year deal was sponsorship? Or is that something else Giligan not revealing?

PR will you be showing as much hostility towards Gil?

At least we’ll be able to judge when their annual reports come out, more than us who is hiding so as not to be held accountable by the stakeholders.
