You look at the areas AFL has a foothold in

Lost teams in

Newtown
Balmain
Wests went way out west
The Bears

West of Homebush there is nothing

Country Areas North of Canberra is all League country
Still plenty ... plenty of RL fans in those areas too & as you go further west as you say
fumbleball fans barely exist

all the way west to Broken hill where there are a few
all the way south to Canberra , where theres a few as well , but funnily ... on the western side of canberra theres another 250km gap to wagga no singlets in there either

These moron chicken littles in here claiming we're being taken over have NFI & like i said this rubbish has been sprouted for 40 years

RL's demise is actually far less likely now then it was in 1982 , it just isn't going to happen

I don't think we will die or lose NSW/QLD. The game is too entertaining and ingrained for that. But it would be nice not to to be rodgered by media giants for once and use the money the game is owed to expand across Australia and further. I'm not talking about fanciful shit like taking over Victoria. But having a proper pathway there, and other states, for kids to play our game. That can only be done with money. For example, my kids school has yearly AFL gala days, fully paid for by AFL house. They don't have an NRL one. I've no doubt this is a common theme around NSW. How can we hope to expand the game when we can't even fund our strongholds.

Theye nver had a war chest like this before. Look at the inroads they’ve made with a $200mill revenue difference. Imagine what they could do with a $450mill a year advanatge!

But yeh keep playing the ostrich.

Of course it won’t, rugby league has survived a lot worse, but we will likely see a current two tier sporting landscape become a three tier one with afl in clear tier one ahead of everyone, nrl tier two and then the rest. unless we get someone running the game who can grow it beyond our current market strengths, that means more grow in victor is, geting perth and Adelaide in, eventually greater nz coverage and finally a south brisbane club. But needs to happen at all levels. Our leadership is clearly not up to this. Unless that changes we better get used to being Australians second footy code,

If you take a look at fta we have origin in their worth $30mill and radio rights worth $10mill.

effectively ch9 pay $90mill a year in new deal for domestic rights compared to $185mill ch7 are paying afl!
you can see why nine has the money to buy union and bid for afl lol

ironically the deal smith did with ch9 for 2017- was for $185mill before he was booted and fox got their way again!

Like NFL and soccer in America, League has something that fumbleball can never have and that is the genuinely gladiatorial aspect. You only have to watch the recent games between Roosters and Storm or Roosters and Souths, they can`t get anywhere near that - as much as they try to kid everyone in their coverage.
League will never become the leading participation sport in our country it`s way too rough for the majority of parents, especially a lot of new Australians from Asia but its` gladitorial aspect can appeal to them.
I wouldn`t panic or be a perpetual doomsday merchant like some. We`ve got to get our Touch, Tag and League Tag pathways fully established especially in schools for those who don`t want to play tackle or to introduce them to the game and we`ve got to expand into one-city teams so everyone can have a team to follow. Television viewers will follow.

Victoria run u18's and u20's teams in the NSWRL competition, So the link is there. Not that you see the media report on it

Yeah it is still 50/50 in most areas

Even Inner West, Wests Leagues are putting in heaps and Councils around that support Tigers

40 years ago it was considered by most fans north of the murray to be a sport for unco little white twerps who can't catch or kick straight
a spectacle that looks like monkeys fighting over the last banana

nothing has changed ...

That will require rationalisation of Sydney. Development requires money that's currently squandered on the NRL clubs from Sydney. All of our game's problems come back to our administration caring more about preserving the NSWRL than the health of the sport. Good businesses don't get sentimental about their history and make changes based on what's needed to survive.

The irony is NSWRL fans were defending the poor attendances of their clubs by saying we're a TV game. We're now going to be $200-$240m behind AwFuL on broadcast revenue alone.

Will NSWRL fans wake up to reality?

I wouldn't bet on it.
