2023-2028 next tv deal discussion

And this is the company Vlandys did a favour for:

News Corp chief executive Robert Thomson also sent a warning to the NRL by declaring the company would do everything it could to help AFL's expansion into league's heartland.
"We will ensure that more people see more games of football and its reach is extended, particularly in NSW and Queensland, where there is obviously a growth opportunity and there is a growth opportunity because this is just a wonderful game," Thomson said.
Haha you’re in good form tonight.
$402mill, last deal $24.5mill contra. This deal at least $5mill more contra from nine plus whatever of the sky extra $12.4 is contra. Ergo $370mill cash. I enjoy how you just totally ignore the discussion and evidence to hurl insults and repeat and rinse your unbalanced arguments, it’s quite something to observe.
For that alone we should tell News Ltd that in 2028 we will negotiate openly with all networks and streaming services. If News Ltd want to keep the rights then they'll need to beat whatever the competitors offer by at least 30%

Yeah but they have a media down there that is very compliant. It wouldn’t be surprised if they were able to bury this by grand final day. Either that or they will be able to successfully frame it as an issue for that club

They shouldn’t be able to and if it were League the story would run and run but it wouldn’t surprise if they are able to.
The AFL will be doing their best to bury this but as many lawyers are apparently already involved and the AFL flush with cash I very much doubt they will be able to set up some dodgy sham investigation like they did with the Essendon peptides drama which back fired badly on them when a real investigation took place by WADA.

And once again where do you see that extra revenue coming from? Without last years second origin revenue we are at around $550mill. revenue at moment. Tv increase is around $10-15mill cash.
In a list of Australia`s top 500 Private companies by revenue the NRL came in at 109th with $575m revenue. A 37 % increase on the year before.
This massive increase is in line with reports of the stellar job that Adbo has been doing increasing non-broadcast revenue. Long may it continue.

nrls revenue last year was $570mill. $17.4million more than our previous best in 2019 under Greenberg. the difference being that the 2021 revenue included revenue from TWO state of origin series. My understanding that the other revenue increase last year was from increases in the betting deals we have.
Unfortunately the accounts are now so blended it’s hard to see any detail since Vlandys took over.

And is projected to keep growing over the next 5 years, The whingers here need to get perspective.

For years the same whingers have asked for expansion, expansion is done despite the uncertainty in the world and it is a bad thing?

Their next goal should be 1 billion in property assets

they still have over hundred million cash at bank that should be invested

the area vlanyds has done his best work is the games finances. And that was during covid I can only imagine how it goes under their growth strategy with no covid

Heres some perspective for you.

revenue jumps from year before and 1st year of following nrl tv deals

2012-2013 $139mill increase
2017-2018 $143mil increase
2022-2023 let’s see shall we. my bet is it isn’t anything like previous jumps!!

all hail Vlandys and Abdo lol
sycophants.

I'll reserve judgment with what's happening down in Melbourne, but suffice to say, if these allegations are true, then it will be a set back for them as far as making inroads into NSW and Qld, particularly around indigenous kids.

But in our game, wasn't amazing that the late Arthur Beetson was the first indigenous to captain Australia in any sport back in 1973, nearly 50 years ago!

It's a feat that should be continually recognized, not just in NSW and Qld, but the whole country of ours.

So apt that racistball has had their moment in the sun re their smoke & mirrors tv deal ruined, exposed again as the most disgusting sport on the planet .....
average fumblers right across the board, like their responses are sickening , showing their true colours as borderline clan members in defence of the indefendable

My problem isn’t that he talks down fumbleball (that is his prerogative) it’s that his actions don’t meet his words.

He doesn’t take them on for one. He then signs us to a deal which is $200 million less than theirs.

Ergo, I don’t care what he says. Actions speak louder than words.
Good Point...he acts like the class clown. It's like people have advised him that RL supporters want someone who has a go at AFL so he throws a few barbs there way to keep us happy. But as you say his actions ie outdoing them in deals etc dont support his big mouth. Time to go and take the useless ABdo with him who they have protected from public scrutiny. We have been conned.

listen to this podcast with Andrew Demitriou and you realise we havent had this sort of leadership since Quayle and Arko who did their best for the game

Not sure this is the right place for it but yeah it’s another reminder how much of a free pass the AFL gets. The sport has racism ingrained in its core and we see this time and time again (despite people labelling it the indigenous game). Meanwhile I regularly hear in my day to day life people lamenting how NRL players are all dickheads and drongos.

It’s very off topic but it shows the power of the media in this regard.
I always laugh how people have referred to league players as meat heads etc. Its been going on for years. The irony is back in the days when players had jobs all clubs had players who were teachers!!! The meat heads educated their children😃😃😃

1. Good on him for expanding but it is an area that is easiest to expand to. Also, he rushed that expansion and didn’t get the financial benefits of that expansion. So yes on the idea but no on the execution

2. Record funding to clubs - Sure but more money to clubs, particularly if revenue hasn’t increased dramatically, means that you’re taking the money from somewhere else? You need to know where before you can praise or criticise that decision

3. Profits - Again how am I obtaining that profit? Am I cutting areas that are important for long term investment and security?

I’ll give him credit for assets and his work in starting the competition earlier than anywhere else. Too bad though that his terrible negotiation skills, knee jerk rule changes and poor communication skills wipe away any credit.
If he was fair dinkum about expansion he would have brought two clubs in when in the history of the sport has expansion not resulted in an even number of games.

vlandys is benefiting from being news corps yes man.

Exactly. You would at least have a plan as to when and where you are going to put the next side in.

You also would get a lot more for the benefit of expansion.
