The Game 2023 Crowd Watch

I think St George have to think about going 10/2 split to Illawarra with 2 event games at SFS , the supporters from the 11 straight generation are just about dead or to old to attend games now and the 10k they are averaging is embarrassing.

What planet are you on.
I was referring more in hope to the Swans and Lions than the current reality of the Bears and Jets but okay...

Collingwood-Sydney drew 71k in Melbourne the other weekend, and at least 20k were Sydney fans, majority old South Melbourne. Same thing 42k for Melbourne-Sydney.

Realistically no club has a big attendance base relative to our rivals in Melbourne in terms of the Sydney market. Roosters are the only side averaging 20k+ without Magic Round and even that will fall over the course of the year.

Newtown nearly outdraw NRL clubs on some weekends, its embarrassing. If Norths are to re-enter the NRL, the time is now...the average Bears fan is only getting older.

Meanwhile we say 15k is a good result while our main rivals get 50k+ for every derby. I love this sport but we are failing somehow when a pathetic made up game encapsulates Melbourne far more than our great game does in Sydney.

It's about time we looked in the mirror and asked ourselves what we really want as a game in Sydney.

But I'll keep any future suggestions to myself so as not to offend you and your band of misery.

How embarrassing for the poor old 28 year old Brisbane Loins

Their Traditional que clash .. gets 23k at the Gabba

3 month old dolphins team across the river draws 6k more
Dolphins average will be impaired from the Kayo Stadium and Sunshine Coast home games too. The Dolphins are absolutely killing it and if they make the finals their membership numbers next year will be enormous.

Exactly!

I was looking at a map the other night and realised the success of the AFLol comes from the fact that every team is a first-ring suburb bar Essendon.
Yes and No

Historically yeah, but some have actually moved away from the inner city, and just kept their names for history and branding

Hawthorn are based at Mulgrave and from what I've seen living in actual Hawthorn, there's more Richmond fans here (plus the university smack bang in the middle of the suburb sponsors Richmond)

Pretty sure St Kilda are out at Moorabbin as well, not sure if there's others

IMO, AFL clubs fan bases are all pretty decentralised, peoppe pick teams for other reasons than geography, and the larger crowds come mostly from a combination of the cities sports culture and centralised stadiums strategy with a public transport system that actually works

Weirdly ticketmaster is only selling seats behind the sticks for the Perth double header. With a few weeks to go I cant believe the sides have sold out. Why do they do that? Puts people off going who may be looking for better seats!

Ticketmaster also had a very strange strategy for Storm's Marvel games when I last looked

As shit as ticketek is I think ticketmaster somehow manages to be even worse

Ticketmaster as a platform is infinitely better than Ticketek. It is totally up to the owner of the event to manage the release of the ticket allocations. The NRL (for the Perth double header) and the Melbourne Storm are in control of these maps.

Despite the current NSW's Govt's propaganda report that came out yesterday re the rail system, Sydney's public transport works absolutely fine. The problem is that it was poor planning over the past 100 years that didn't link parts of the metro area together that should have been. Pretty much every line is focused on getting to Central and the city. There is no cross-metropolitan lines.
Getting from Hurstville/The Shire/Southern suburbs to Parramatta, you have to head into Redfern/Central first. Going backwards before going forwards.
Parramatta needs to be connected to Epping and also the Hills Shire. Tallawong needs to be connected to Schofields - Marsden Park and St Marys.
This map if ever built would completely solve all of Sydney's rail problems. Overlay it over the current Sydney Trains lines and the whole Sydney Metropolitain area would be covered except for the Northern Beaches. And they don't want trains anyway so f**k them.

Carlton has a population of 19k and a membership of 80k. Their names are largely irrelevant in modern day.

Yeah generally I find Sydney’s public transport pretty decent. Here in the Hunter it’s absolute dog shit and as the population grows it feels like the area is totally unprepared for it.

I think the knights vs sea eagles game will be effected a tad due to origin plus our poor away form in recent weeks. Plus our 2 Sunday afternoon games have pulled poor crowds. I'm thinking 16,000 but I hope it's closer to 20,000.
