Confirmation from the NRL that 40,000 is on the radar for Bulldogs vs Rabbitohs on Good Friday.

If successful, it will be the first Good Friday game to achieve a crowd of 40,000+ since 2015.

The 40,000 the NRL is talking about there is Round 5, 2015... not this weekend.

The NRL home page on Facebook posts about NRL crowds and some RL page which I've never heard of before posts about afl crowds, far out this shits me. Who cares if they get a trillion thru the gates, I still wouldn't watch that drivel...

Broncos vs Raiders is selling a bit better than the game last week. 33c and full sun is forecast for Saturday, so we might see good gate sales to hopefully offset members and corporates that might be away for the weekend.

The Broncos have again priced this as a tier one match day ($135+ for sidelines and $40+ behind the posts). I don't think that's a good approach for back to back games against last and second last. Crowd wise at least, commercially they'll be making good coin.

28-30k is likely but if tickets shift at the rate they did today 32-34k is possible.

Calling em Fitzroy (and the Swines South Melbourne) pisses off every AFLol cult member in Brisbane and Sydney

That's why they still draw well in Melb though...
42k for Demons v Swans had about 15k Swans fans, majority Melb based (that is an old rivalry Melb v South Melb)

That's what bringing the Bears back will do, a strong away contingent for an interstate club due to the pre-relocation fans.

Perth Bears all the way, Perth Red's Pirates can go get stuffed
The truth hurts, the Lions and Swans are imports from Melbourne as are the bulk of their fan base.

I really am all for the Bears brand being back in the NRL (provided it is used in a strategic expansion location and not just to get games back at NSO). I think it would be a great story for the game and patch some old wounds.

If it's anything like the SCG the novelty will wear off 1 minute after kick off.

Yep, he’ll spend more time looking at the big screen than the actual game unless he brings binoculars. At some point one realises they’ve traveled to the footy only to watch the game on a big tele.
I will take your wise advice and only buy tickets to one game for now because you are probably right. You'd think I would have learnt after being a Broncos member during the 90's and having to front up at that God awful ANZ Stadium every fortnight.

There's anecdotal evidence that people actually left South Melb for Sydney in 1982, that's where the plague started.

Can't see that happening with Bears fans to wherever (hopefully Perth), given they will still have the 2 NSO games a year.

Storm v Roosters is selling better than I expected. Both upper stands are on sale at AAMI Park, which usually doesn't happen.

Sideline seats in the lower bowl are almost all gone, whilst in the upper level, outside of the corners, the first 10 - 20 rows are full.

18K+ is definitely in the realms of possibility (assuming there are no strange holds) which would be a great way to kick off the round.

This Thursday night is the Thursday night to get. I would have loved the Broncos to have the Thursday before good Friday.

This was a good schedule given there is no muntedball in Melbourne on Thursday night.
