I often think the best player for the maroons is God. We had that game won with less than 10 minutes to go and then all these miraculous things suddenly happened for them. We need to get God on our side by being better people.

Let's support Freddie and the team. This is a good team they've selected. They've gotten rid of TPJ which is great and Hynes, unfortunately there just isn't a spot for him this year.

Let's see all the bounce of the ball and everything go our way this time.

I’ve heard it all now from NSW fans on why they continue to lose. An imaginary sky fairy isn’t on our side oh WOE IS ME!

Better shape up Opus Dei style and start flogging your back, that just might get you an Origin series win :)

Pearce won 1 series, because he steven bradbury'd in game 3

His origin career was a massive failure, and he was constantly picked, regardless of how shit he was at origin level.

The irony here is you could replace Pearce with Cleary and 1 with 2 in your first sentence and your post would still be accurate.

Pearce was always outclassed. Always. Should never have played one Origin game. Unless one wanted QLD to win that series.

Why would you expect him to not be outclassed by Lockyer, JT and Cronk? Not even the most one eyed roosters fan would ever have suggested he was on their level let alone better than them.

Meanwhile, Cleary is allegedly the best half (some say best player) in the game.

This. Cleary and Pearce have performed extremely similarly the Origin level.

Cleary was just lucky that his selection came around the time of the gradual retirement of the big 4 where they struggled a little to rebuild while Pearce had to play against them at their peak.

Nathan Cleary is just Mitchell Pearce with a more talented coach as a father.

Both extremely well drilled in their skills and all the stuff that make scouts and coaches drool at training, but go to water once plan A falls apart as they don’t have the football brain to come up with a Plan B on the fly by looking at what’s in front of them.

Nathan has just been taught a better plan A from Ivan than Mitch did from Wayne.

penrith 2020-2022 were pretty on par roster wise with roosters 2013-2015. We’ll see how Nathan goes once the squad gets systematically broken up over the next few seasons

Watching the first game, I got the feeling that most of the Queensland team grew up playing rugby league for fun with their mates and were interested in the game. When things didn't go to plan they could easily slip into other positions and make the most of broken play opportunities

The NSW team seem to be robot like who do a job and only ever played in official games

he also had the disadvantage of playing with Paul Gallen

Gallen even at club level contributed nothing to his teams chances of winning. There was pretty much no difference in a sharks team with or without him. Potential a great player but caught up in chasing stats and personal performance goals over the main aim of football which is to win. Gallen was no better than an Alan Tongue or Shaun Fensom, has nothing on the like to Tohu Harris or Taulmololo in his prime.

for better or worse (clearly worse) Pearce defines NSW origin for rugby league for the last 15 years.

between him and Paul Gallen it’s no wonder the current generation of blues players who came of age watching these natural born losers just don’t know how to get it done
Honorable mentions to Greg Bird and Robbie Farah.

just for reference, both era's where they were 7 for the majority of the series

I seem to remember the great Ricky Stuart said that Pierce was the best player in the world at the time.

I'd consider him a Roosters supporter.
