I walked past the live site on Tuesday near Parramatta station while a World Cup game was on and very few people were watching. No buzz or excitement sadly.

The excitement and buzz of the tournament has died back a bit and I think if the Matilda’s get knocked out that would certainly hurt.

One of the problems is sevens coverage of the tournament. Most of the games are exclusive to Optus sport which frankly who the f**k watches that? Whilst I’m still interested and will tune in for the Matilda’s it’s kinda killed my excitement for the tournament and it means less people are watching or talking about it.

Men`s, women`s whatever, when you`re watching a version of a sport where they can`t string three, often only two passes together and for long periods not much happens, then it is hardly surprising people are switching off.
Funnily enough it reminded me of the fumbleball last night where the ball just continually pings between the players of both teams with no real rhyme or reason. Of course in the Oz women`s soccer`s case it was just poor skills not as we know the idiot nature of the game as in f-ball. Rather funny really.

I’m not going to entertain that nonsense.
I`ve got absolutely nothing against women`s soccer and the few minutes I watched at first (during the League half-time) I was amazed at some of the on-ball skill of the Nigerians, having said that when I watched again when the League was done all I often (or saw too much of) was ridiculous passing errors and negative play. I can be just as harsh on the NRLW when it is a litany of knock-ons and basic errors. Poor quality sport is just plain poor quality sport or maybe you are just more than a patriot than me or even may have jumped the "don`t dare criticise the women`s sport " bandwagon. They are not children and I dare say can handle it.

If I want to watch a better quality of soccer I can go down to my park and watch the under 18s men play

doesn’t cost a thing but still kinda boring

I wonder if you took the huge crowds out of soccer it, and had to watch up to 110 mins of the game in an empty stadium how many people would enjoy it so much

Maccas is the most popular restaurant in the world. Taylor Swift has the world losing its sht.
quality of product has nothing to do with popularity!

Agreed. Very rarely do you see a conflation of popularity with something that is of high quality,

There has been a few movies and a few music acts. Even a lot of classical artists, writers and painters etc achieved their success after they died.

100% this. There’s no coverage, just a 3 maltildas games before the finals start. FFA/FIFA have missed an opportunity here but it’s being behind a paywall

World wide is another story. As somebody else mentioned the tournament is hidden away here, u forget it's on when it's one of the biggest sporting events this year.
Well I can only comment about what’s happening here and, given my lack of interest in the code more broadly, I really don’t care what’s happening elsewhere.

What's going on there? Are they afraid that if they released them and they were half way decent that then questions will be asked as to why the NRL aren't being paid by anyone to televise them?

I feel we have been dudded once again.

They would be very low

The thing I don't get is we bid to host the world cup. We won the bid. And now that the event is underway, most of it is hidden behind a pay wall. Like, what is exactly is the point of hosting the WWC anyway?

There's tourism & eyeballs watching from overseas (far greater than an afl or ntl match can get). Doesn't help game here in Australia. Needs to feel like massive event.

Exactly.

Now we might not ever get a men’s World Cup but this could conceivably be a trial run. If we don’t have much of an atmosphere for this it doesn’t help any argument for getting our hands on that which would be absolutely massive for the country (even most likely as a joint bid)
