Outrageous soccer ratings.

What we've learnt over the last couple of months is that when a national team is playing in any given sport, and the nation is behind that team, then it is difficult for the NRL and Fumbleball to gain any form of traction.

But when the music's over, fans from both codes will return.

What does that have to do with it?

Take Perth. The game starts at 6pm on a Wednesday.

There is no way everyone with a ratings box will be home for 1.

2nd some will prefer the News.

That affects the ratings, Not how many people are at the pubs watching it.

That is why ratings are limited with how high they can get

R u butthurt of something?! Final will be highest rated broadcast

Aussies love a bandwagon to follow

most of the people watching this don’t even watch any football code regularly

look at the Aussie open tv ratings when Barty made the final to when she didn’t

That is where it ends up. Given the system is flawed

That's the sad thing. Most of these people bandwagoning, going on about 'supporting women's football' etc won't watch a single A-League Women's game next season. Most of them just want to be part of the 'moment' and to be seen doing it.

Soccer had a chance to be a big sport in Sydney in 1905

problem is it had to compete with first union and vfl then finally rugby league

why people think over 130 years of history is going to be overturned because our women’s team are doing well is nonsense

their pro game is a joke

Yeah how dare these people want to be part of the moment. I dislike the term bandwagon in this case, people like to watch events and this is as big as it gets so people are excited.

Also yeah it’s true the womens A league won’t suddenly become super popular but this has absolutely raised the profile of womens sport in particular for the Matilda’s.

Yep soccer is very popular once someone can't handle RL or Union
Atheltic kids play all 3 or at least soccer and league

then as they get older they drop off

Dennan kemp and dean young were very talented soccer juniors )maybe played for Australia at under 19s)

It's the definition of the word. Take your quibble up with the English dictionary editors.

People hop on bandwagons all the time. Not just sport. Don't tell me that everybody was doing Gangnam Style because of their decades long love affairs with K-pop. People want to be seen doing the trendy thing, whether it's planking or following the Matildas. Where it becomes hypocritical is when they make social statements about supporting women's sport (again - mostly to be seen doing so) but once the comp is over, they go back to ignoring women's sport just like they did before. I don't know if you're one of these people or not. If you are though you can get help.

Get help for what? Casually enjoying a sport. It’s bizarre how sad y’all are in this forum.

Also there is nothing hypocritical about it, getting behind the Matilda’s is getting behind womens sport. You don’t have to attend every sporting match ever to support women’s sport. It’s a step in the right direction.

Edit: People aren’t following the Matilda’s because it’s trendy, it’s because it’s FUN. Something some of you seem to have forgotten about. Being apart of a crowd, getting behind the hype is a good time. Bring parochial is fun. Most people supporting the Matilda’s aren’t doing it to prop up women’s sport, they just want to be apart of the moment which is fine.

Watched “the Matty Johns Show” twice without volume, (at my club). I assume HG made Fletch & Hindy (and Matty) look like squares in a comedic world.
