Massive difference. 15 games as opposed to 7.

2 regional teams in the NRL as the marquee PTV game of the week & you get a bit worried
but
nearly 600K viewers

jesus ...
Only if you just started following the data. The cowboys have been a big draw on PTV for quite some time and have some of the all time highest rating games.

The knights not so much but this year they seem to be rating a lot better.

Code war d*** measuring aside, it shows the value of Thursday and Friday night football for both sports.

A fully live NRL FTA doubleheader on a Friday night would be an absolute behemoth.

If the 1st game started at 7 possibly, Any earlier and people wouldn't make the kickoff.

Could be argued they get the boost from viewers in Sydney though when playing a Sydney side

until we get a breakdown of PTV viewership location we won't know for sure.

We already kickoff the early game at 6pm on a Friday for Foxtel viewing. But yes, the later the kickoff, the better the crowds and TV audiences. However, I also doubt the NRL would bring in a kickoff later than 8:30 for the second game.

It all depends on bidding broadcasters and expansion team locations. Channel 10 could easily run coverage from 6 to 11.

Channel 9 would only cut their news if they had full exclusivity to those two matches, because the viewer loss at the moment to Foxtel is too great to justify ending the news half an hour early and dropping ACA. But with 2 exclusive games, what they lose in News/ACA they make up for in exclusive national NRL viewership across a 4.5 hour block.

So if 9/Stan were the sole broadcasters, in southern states they could run their news as normal. But in NSW/QLD/ACT they could end the news at 6:30pm on a Friday then leap into NRL coverage to 11pm with 2 back to back games. If the second game started at 8:30pm and had a 15 or even 20 minute half time, it would like finish around 10:20pm. However, if the second game was in Perth, it could start later 9pm EST/7pm WA and run to around 10:50pm. Again - all depends on broadcasters and team locations.

Ideally though out of the 4 teams playing on a Friday, there'd be at least 1 Sydney team, at least 1 QLD team and a team from either Perth/Melbourne/Adelaide to ensure that at least 3 metro regions are targeted. If the early game is in New Zealand, obviously the 4th team would be Warriors or NZ2. The idea is to get audiences from all 3-4 areas watching across both games.

Those 6pm games do ok but don't get huge ratings, Sunday afternoon/Night is probably the better double.

Are NZ ratings recorded? I want NZ 2 next but without recorded Ratings there is no way to tell if that is a good outcome. Especially if the late game is a dud and people switch off early

The 6pm game’s current audience is artificially limited as it’s only on Foxtel. Kicking off half an hour later after the main news has finished and with FTA coverage as part of a double header will dramatically boost it.

Sunday night is the ultimate timeslot but it won’t happen unless a network owns both AFL and NRL. If they did though they’d likely dominate the slot.

The closest you might get is 10 fixing their 530 to 730 twilight slot with NRL coverage in NSW and QLD. The doubleheader would be 3 to 5 game as a news lead in.

The other potential doubleheader is Saturday night.

I don’t have access to NZ ratings any more.

Yeah but you compare it to a Sat night game for example.

It is on par with Sunday games which have their own issues for getting Live viewers/crowds.

Certainly though double headers make sense as far as saving on production costs, Just where is best to maximise that 9th game

Rabbitohs Panthers Thursday about 1.25m
Eels Broncos Friday 1.225m

Massive numbers.

Brisbane jets would mean even more broncos games on fox
And dare I suggest, more high Tv ratings for the code. Which the hypothetical Indian Ocean team( that can walk the plank blindfolded) will not be able to match, which would create great angst and gnashing of teeth from a certain laddie (no names no pack drill).

The great game gave the fumblers a spanking on Fox yesterday. Fta was close to them.
this round has been a little bit amazing tbh

we're at.. around the 5 mill mark already with 2 games to come, one on FTA
so
6 mill is a given & at a pinch , might pass the round 1 mark

caveat is again
4 games on FTA this round , while round 1 only had 3
