When Origin was emerging in the 1980’s, international football was still relevant, especially with Kangaroo tours after the GF.

If there weren’t any Kangaroo tours, then Origin might’ve been scheduled after the GF.

Origin has a strength and a weakness. It brings huge interest, but it is only one game between two states (teams).

International football also has weaknesses and strengths. Australia is dominate, with an occasional win from NZ as far as tournaments are concerned. But it has multiple games (countries)

Hypothetically if the Origin concept began in the last few years, you would have internationals during the season with stand alone weekends, and Origin after the GF.

Now the best you would hope for when team 18 comes in, is just have a round split across three weekends with 3 games each.

Whilst good our average is way down on the highs before origin

it will bounce back with such a close competition but the origin impact on crowds and ratings is there

In 2015 the Warriors were averaging 90 000 per game on Sky. To estimate that in 2023 - in a year of bumper broadcast audiences for Rugby League - to get 100 000 is actually probably being very conservative.

Sky NZ released ratings for the Warriors/Broncos game earlier this year.

It got 107k on NZ sky from memory.

My guess is he is going on that number.

Its the same method sporting on twitter uses when guessing Kayo numbers.

example
Official Fox 250k
Round 1 Kayo release data 125k = 50% of box numbers.

50% of Box ratings as Kayo, do that for the rest of the year.

ok thanks, why he isnt estimating what the other NRL games on SkyNZ are getting as well? In for a penny in for a pound if youre making educated guesses lol

Think about it.

Its near impossible to come across NZ warriors ratings, how about the rest of the teams.

Not likely.

Here is a snippet for the Warriors Broncos game.

Something like that. We go off the latest reports, so for Kayo we're using the round 1 complete set for Kayo. But we do have data from last year too. NZ we havent had since 2015

"RL Fans will start following AFL if they have 3 weeks without club NRL on TV."
Has to be the dumbest argument ever! You'd have to be pretty insecure about the fans of our game to believe that for one second.

What might be of more concern to NRL is that PI players would rather play for Tonga or Samoa than Qlnd or NSW if it was a proper 3 week rep period.
Even if their was no NRL for 3 years I will never follow that rubbish code. I suppose you will? Is that what you're implying?
