Nine papers are reporting the NRL's ANZAC Day schedule could change - with the Warriors lobbying for an ANZAC Round home game for the first time since 2015. The article also confirmed the NRL was "still working through the process of putting together next year's draw", which is "due to be announced in November". MORE HERE.

Fair enough. A shame to lose our marquee match, but if we can alternate each year I think that’s a happy medium.

Would rather that than play another opponent all together, it’s just not the same.

I guess until their recent success, they were happy just being inside the tent.

Good luck to them.

Any Kiwis on here can tell us what Anzac Day means to NZ?

ANZAC day is similar here to Australia - we have dawn service in many places & morning commemorations, and It's a public holiday.

Most stores are closed until 1pm except petrol stations and small convenience stores/dairies that can open in the morning.

Aside from that, the only difference could be the lens we see ANZAC day through.

I notice that a lot of Australians are far more overtly patriotic than us Kiwis, so that's something that could filter through to how ANZAC day is regarded.

I think there should be an ANZAC day game in NZ every year. Ideally once we have NZ 2, get 3 games per year on ANZAC Day.

Warriors v Storm
Roosters v Dragons
NZ 2 v Raiders

3pm NZ/1pm Sydney - game 1 kicks off (played in Auckland or NZ2's home ground)
5pm NZ/3pm Sydney - Roosters v Dragons at SFS
7pm NZ/5pm Sydney/ACT - game 3 kicks off (played in Canberra or Melbourne)

Alternate the venues of the trans-Tasman games each year... that way NZ gets to hold one game every ANZAC Day.

Some news from the other code which is relevant to us.

Looks like they are releasing fixture 16 November which seems like it will be before the NRL one. They are doing this round 0 thing which will directly line up the NRL round 1 (minus the 4 vegas teams) where Brisbane, GC, Sydney and GWS all host high profile Victorian teams. They will then have round 1 the following week featuring all the teams but with an emphasis on games in the southern states

Interesting to see what the NRL does to answer this. It confirms there will be no AFL in Melbourne in NRL week 1 but a tonne of it in NRL week 2 so if they don't give Storm a home game in week 1 they are insane. We also won't be able to put the Broncos up against the lions because they will not be playing that week due to Vegas but we could use the Dolphins. Same with Roosters/Souths.

They should be giving Parra and Titans home games in week 1 and put them directly up against the GWS and Suns "round 0" games.

There have been plenty of years with no AFL during NRL round 1, maybe 30% of the time the Storm are given a home game. The NRL have a great track record of not taking advantage of the clear air in Melbourne unfortunately.

If you avoided the clash with the AFL, the NRL games would likely get higher crowds and higher ratings. Would’t that make more sense (like we are suggesting for Storm)?

Newcastle should host one of the women's state of origins in 2024.
It would get over 20k fans.
Agree, Newcastle & Townsville should be venues for Women's Origin. Would comfortably draw between 35-40K between the two and set the bar high for future hosts.

Eels v Bulldogs should be Sunday arvo but maybe PVL is flexing the AFL who wanted to put there games on in Sydney that Saturday didnt they.

So we put 2 Western Sydney rival teams on and hopefully get a sellout

Well our draw will apparently come out first so AFL will have that benefit. If the above leaked schedule is right it seems obvious for them to put Swans on Friday night and GWS Sunday.

At least the NRL appear to be giving Storm a home game in clear air.

So if that article is right, it'll be Souths second consecutive season starting with 3 away games, and fourth consecutive season starting with at least 2 away games. Fun.
