I think if Australia made the 550 in 5 and a half sessions instead of just under four, they would have been better off because right now, South Africa can go at whatever pace they like because as long as they can stay in, they could keep batting til lunch on day 4 and be putting themselves in the best position to win the match. That's two whole days of batting and on this road that should be enough time for 700 runs easy. And the pitch changes day 4

I don't believe that AB is compromised AND in recent history, any time Kallis has batted injured his made big scores. And Smith and Petersen are in the middle right now

Its a big score. but its not a scary score. Teams have scored more on the first innings and have lost!

Unlike us, the saffas have taken the option of batting out the overs until they get close to our score. At the run rate they are scoring at, it will be some time on day 4 before the innings is finished, whether or not they trail, matters not, time will be taken out of the game to resolve both first innings

This has the hallmarks of the Ashes test when England was bowled out in a session on the final day and also the Aus India match when India got smashed around the park for 4 sessions and they then took 8 sessions to get slightly behind in terms of the run tally

Usually the action in Adelaide happens at the start of the second innings. Which is a shame because back in the old days it was one of Warne and Mcgrath's favourite torture chambers

I could see SA winning this series 1-0, despite being outplayed in the first 2 Tests. Perth could suit them a lot more than Brisbane, and certainly more than Adelaide.

Wade needs to be dropped. Unacceptable missed stumping. Smith could make us pay here.

I have changed my mind about there being life in this pitch. Looking like a long stretch in the field...

To be fair though there was some nice bounce this morning and Hilfenhaus was getting it swinging early.

Siddle has bowled the best spell of the Aussie bowlers. Patto's not bowling well, Lyons been OK, Hilf tight.

Patience and the wickets will come

Morne's height on its own gets him steep bounce. Hilfenhaus was getting some swing but only when the ball was new
