Pick the best XI, will the attitude that the baggygreen cap is to be earned not given away or held onto willy nilly. The captain has some input, but overall he is given the best XI possible to captain on the field. If he doesnt like it, he needs to pass on the captaincy to someone else who will be honoured to captain the best XI on the paddock, rather than hang onto mates and bum chums
