5th's about right, your most recent home series have shown that the likes of the Windies and Pakistan are very competitive with Aust...

North is hilarious... he's putting together a Matthew Sinclair type career - except I'd argue Sinclair is probably a better player... if he was a NZ'er his place in our team would be under question, yet he's a lock in yours

But, credit where credit is due... Tendulkar is back, and has been for some time... Dravid and Laxman too, and some new talent looking promising... and aside from anything else, Dhoni is head and shoulders the best captain in international cricket, and is an example (Fleming the previous one) of hoe a fine leader can lift a team...

the media are all over this this morning

Gavin Robertson calling for Notch's head and Blewie calling for Hauri's head, at least they agree changes need to be made

bottom line for me we are now rated at 5 and imo we are better than that, we have the player to get us to top 3 but our pig headed clueless selectors have never picked our strongest team for the last 10 years. Previously we had the depth to carry to under performers but now we dont

let's hope Greg Chappell's appointment makes a difference.

I think it's time for a change of captain. Keep him in the side, but don't let him be responsible for setting fields and rotating the bowlers.

Yesterday was just absolutely ridiculous. I don't think we would have won regardless, but it would have been nice if we put up a fight.

You are kidding right????

There are MUCH better options.

O'Keefe just to name one.

Stats sometimes don't say everything but ...

O'Keefe currently has an average of about 23 in first class cricket.
Hauritz currently has an average of 43 in first class cricket.

I have absolutely no doubt O'Keefe will be named in the test side within the next year ... if not sooner.

And one more thing:

O'Keefe is bowling NSW to victory against SA
Bowling to Victory: Something Hauritz has never done and never will do.

I hate left arm spinners, they more often or not do poorly in test cricket. O'Keefe is also more a containing bowler. We don't need to make a decision on Hauritz until after the Ashes. The one I am hoping will come on is Cullen Bailey as frankly a poor leggie will get wickets more regularly than a poor offie.

I could bowl NSW to victory against SA..look at their lineup!

Typical, bagging the greatest captain of all time :sarcasm:

No slips after lunch trying to win a game. Hauritz, North, Hussey must go. Sadly they wont Haddin and Bollinger will come in as the only changes

Gavin Robertson is a dribbler.

Robertson wasn't calling for his head, but he did say he needs to pick his form up and start bowling with a plan. He builds no pressure at all, unlike Hilfy who bowled outstanding with little reward. Yes Robertson is a dribbler but there was nothing wrong with what he said.

The whole problem with the Australian set up is the team can do no wrong, everyone who even dares to have an opinion against Ponting and his team are seen as the enemy. The channel nien commentary team is by far the worst....

I probably deserve that.

That said, I never once said he was the greatest, only that he was the most successful. I made certain to make that distinction.
How do you define most successful??? Sure he has won the most matches but his winning % is only 65 while Steve Waughs was 72%. Never winning in India or England rules him out straight away IMO. Gotta laugh at how quick you changed your tune. It only took a couple of losses against the no 1 team in the world for you to jump of the Ponting bandwagon

Right here. I'd forgotten about that one.

I still think Ponting has a lot to offer the Australian team. He's still the best batsman that we have, and he's a fine leader. I just think he might need a little help from time to time.

He's made too many mistakes over the last few years. We should have won in Mohali, we should have put up a fight in Bangalore, we should have beaten bloody Pakistan, we should have won the Ashes, and don't get me started on the previous tour of India before this one.

I don't think the rest of the team is completely blameless - particularly Hauritz. I can't believe that he picked the field that he bowled to. What was he thinking? My God.

But why was Hauritz there in the first place? Probably down to Ponting. Which was a mistake. I sincerely hope we try other spin options in the Ashes, because the English will be salivating at the thought of taking him apart.

Michael Clarke needs to find some form and fast. He's been there long enough now that he's supposed to be the guy we can rely on to steady the ship when we lose a few quick wickets. Instead he gets out stupidly and needlessly and lets the rot set in when we inevitably have another mid-order collapse. He's certainly not being helped by Hussey or North.

What happened to Hussey? I can't think of many players who have had a debut year that was as brilliant as his, and now he's doing well if he gets past 30. Very dramatic decline.

I realise that most of you have come to the same conclusions long ago, and although I don't think Ponting's been anywhere near as bad as you have made out, I think his time as captain is up. Other nations can change captains without dropping them, why can't Australia?

Not anywhere near as bad? How bad do you want him to be? Here are some of his "achievements"...

1. Losing the Ashes TWICE!
2. Failing to win a single test in India.
3. Losing to Bangladesh.
4. Moving to our lowest ranking EVER (Behind England FFS)

He is shocking. I am sorry but you cannot suggarcoat any of these. If Stephen Fleming was our captain we would be no worse than 3rd in the world. The cattle is there, we have a clueless leader though!
