Serious question- if Voges somehow manages to retire with an average of 100+, how would you feel about that? Do Aussies feel like this is a bit of a disservice to Don Bradman?

Nah the next best average in the world is Smith on 59 then root on 54. Its still the same blokes averaging over 50. Its inflated for a bunch of reasons and it will decrease id think. He will want to play for australia as long as possible

Edit

Haque actually has the next best average 56. There are 10 blokes averaging over 50 atm. That feels right from a historical pov

Edit 2

9 blokes because khawaja dropped below 50 this test

It's more a statement at how shit world cricket is ATM Meth.

Yeah, I get that and I think that no informed cricket fan would compare Bradman to Voges seriously. But is there a degree of sacrosanct to the Don's average? I kind of feel it. I would think there would be Aussies who feel it more?

I guess the Don's first-class record is similar to his test record, Voges' isn't (while it's still excellent)

What's astounding is he didn't get a gig earlier

What does a good knock from him look like here?

30-40 runs scored relatively quickly?

If Voges can keep him company, time shouldn't be a factor at this stage. If he can make a gritty 50 it would do wonders for his confidence. ..and probably his reputation as a tests batsman too I reckon

Those magnificent levers aren't made for grit

At this stage nothing will harm his reputation as a test batsman

Those levers aren't made for grittin'
But that's what I hope they'll do
One of these days his average
Will rise above the level of poo

He is in rare form. I mean coming in at 5 when the top order has done the job is nice but he still needs score them.

You can contrast having a stellar test career with being a world-class batsman (and the greatest ever). Voges' average will reflect a stellar test career, but the history books will have him down as a very good but not great batsman. Whereas Sir Donald's record paints him as the greatest player to have played the game.

Dom Voges has scored less than 1300 runs I think, the real Don scored about 7,000

try and do that and still average around 100 then we can talk but it aint gonna happen
