Innings defeat is on. NZ really only have a handful of test class players. Williamson, Watling and Boult. Southee is a medium pacer who relies too heavily on a green seamer, Guptill is geniused at test cricket, Latham is mentally soft. So we have no spin quality, no openers, and one decent seamer. It's enough to beat Sri Lanka at home but we are a long way short of competing consistently at the top level.

Definitely has been soft batting. But Pattinson has set up the batsmen beautifully with some great balls prior to the dismissals.

I wonder whether Tom Latham has the highest proportion of all batsmen all time for falling between 25 and 45. He's as soft as jelly

Nicholls is a spud who nearly got out two balls before he was dismissed to Patto's second worst ball. Latham got out to his worst ball but Patto had bowled well to him before that.

Nicholls cannot drive well. He is not a top 4's backside. He should not be in the team ahead of Young, Smith or even hitters Munro and Tom Bruce who is on the up. Let alone Jesse, the best cover driver in the country.

Boult is pathetic without swing.
