We need Anderson, KW and Watling to make significant scores to get 200+ unless some flukey tail ending slogathon happens.

Anderson won't last unless he has a mighty swing (which he might).

KW and Watling partnership the key, our tail is very capable, even f*cking Southee might actually help if he lasts longer than 10 balls.

180+ needed along with some fail Australian batting.
Hard to see happening.

I agree on odds with everything you say but I point out tail starts at 8 with Southee, not 9. No Craig or even Bracewell this match.

Anderson may get runs, but odds not good, for him or any NZ bats atm really bar KW. If he swings, he may. I hope he plays positively tomorrow and not indecisively. He looks his best when does.

Wagner should be promoted ahead of sloggers Southee, Henry and even Boult's run scoring options of various slogs (he blocked for Taylor's tripple chance, though).

I am glad for you having some hope. It is good to read. Odds against us, but its nice to see some a slither of hope in KW, BJ ( who finally made runs last innings by hitting out - hopefully he found some form) and Corey with a sloggy tail.

Don't tease NZ fans like that.

Even then, if there is no swing for Boult, will Australia swing again with pull shots during Wagnerline? Australia only need a draw before chasing risky runs off Wagner.

No we need a win,1-0 or 1-1 is fail,2-0 is life

Our tail isn't bad, although it sounds odd with Southee at 8.

Southee bats like a knob, but Wagner is a solid bat as you say, Henry and Boult aren't great but have plenty of shots in them if they get going.

Very capable of smashing 50+ runs extra between them, equally capable of being rolled for < 5

Williamson is due for a big one, he wont get out any time soon on day4

All you need is 3 others to score 20-30 odd each, then you have NZ ahead by over 200

Absolutely agreed. Southee, Henry and Boult play the numbers of boundary scoring quite successfully for useful tail end contributions. Mitch does a very good job in odis too and could offer a lot more in time with his batting promise. Milne is nearing all rounder quality with the bat.

Southee could have done more on his batting promise is a common theme, but he is definitely climbing the 6 hitters record list. He is way ahead of Warner after 3 fewer tests :p http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/records/283122.html

But a straight bat for batting time and sticking around they are not reknown for bar Wags - who scores less runs than Henry, Tim and even Trent. Might change if its KW that they're batting with and a useful lead. But Boult, Henry or Southe slogging a 50 is not unfathomable at all.

Innings defeat avoided :D

Patto bowling beautifully and is all over Anderson like an ACDC shirt on a bogan.

The other thing Australia have done much better (if we need another thing) is get the ball into a condition where it reverses - I see discussion on the SMH about how they'd done this, but clearly NZ lacking in these skills too

They didn't tamper with the ball in illegal manner so what's the issue?

The umpire can't tell you how to throw the ball in to the keeper, that's a joke

lol now a dropped catch to boot. Marsh, surprisingly..

And Burns with his customary drop at short leg. Good thing Williamson isn't known for big hundreds

Yeah. He really can if you're obviously doing it to alter the state of the ball....

That was a pretty straight forward drop from Marsh, he just made it look difficult. Normal service has been resumed with his fielding

Yep, but blah blah's knowledge of the game isn't exactly extensive

Umpires had a word but are happy - I wasn't suggesting an issue, just noting that Australia had managed to get significant reverse, we got very little - fielding and hitting 6's remain our only advantages

No Lyon to Anderson?

Corey 'll be happier facing Darsh me thinks.

Good time for a KW clinic.

Bugger, Lyon on now...

Did his incompetence in the field ever stop? He took a meaningless catch (literally) and that's about it
