The batting is not as bad as the bowling IMO.

My gut tells me Hughes and Ponting to get centuries today in a 200 run partnership.

Considering Hughes is an opener and Ponting is at 6 we'd have to be 4/10 for that to eventuate. More than possible for this team but unlikely.

Australia won't get close to 500.

They'll be lucky to get 250.

Key for Sth Africa is the get Clarke, Hussey and Ussie early.

No one else poses a threat to them.
I'm inclined to agree with this assessment, Clarke and Hussey have definite ability to just stay in and anchor an innings, if we can get those two out relatively cheaply, then we're cruising. Khawaja is also very solid, but he hasn't really done anything on the test stage to suggest the sort of impact he can have regardless of what's happening with the rest of the order.

Not necessarily that bad. Hughes would just need to still be in after the first 4 wickets fall. Say he has around 40 when Punter comes to the crease. Then bam, 200 run partnership.

I've got a nagging feeling that Ponting will finish his career Tubby style, with a position saving century here and an epic 200+ in the summer. But surely the SCG test will be the swansong (if he gets there).

The difference is Tubby was captain and a very good one at that. If Tubby was in that form slump and wasn't captain he would never have made it to the 97 Ashes let alone to 1999.

I'm not even good enough to play for the Australian team, how could I ever make the South African side?

dunno

if you can turn a ball you'd walk into the Ausie side
Sometimes not even that will make you our 1st choice spinner...but if you take 8 wickets you're sacked 2 tests later. And if you score 2 100s in 1 test, you're sacked 3 tests later.

But if your name is Mitch and you have a fully sick tat, you have a job for life.

yeah, but I can only do that sometimes, I have some great ball and some balls that don't even land on the pitch, I have some balls that land in the next net at training:lol:

Just like my right arm slow leg cutters / nude nuts.

Probably still have more accuracy than Johnson though.

Expecting some good batting from our guys tonight. Hopefully Steyn goes wicketless... This pitch should favour Morkel IMO.
