Cummins is a great bowler but is a Tim Paine level skipper. f**king diabolical.

Need to be mentally strong going into Melbourne and not let this demoralising draw affect us too much.

For the SCG the other guy is Abbott. Brings his batting with him too.

Average age of the squad isn't too pretty:

Usman 37 (Turns 38 tomorrow...)
Smith 35 (36 in June)
Marsh 33 (Not that old but he looks old)
Hazelwood 33 (Injury prone)
Lyon 37 (38 in November)
Starc 34 (35 in January)
Boland 35 (36 in April)

They won't all retire at once. Some like Smith will be begged to stay on post Ashes next year. Lyon as a spinner could keep going.

One bloke (Lyon) can be easily replaced tomorrow , but will play another 3 years, cause "I luv playing for Shtralia"

Cam Green when ready for Marsh or whoever else ends up at 6

Really need to bring on and give opportunities to guys like Spencer, Doggett and Bartlett for red ball

Batting? Im available

What about the...Victorian.

Fergus O'Neil!

I still have love for Jhye Richardson at 28 years. But he can't do a hi-five without breaking his arm.

Definately a left armer replacement for Starc would be handy. That would be Spencer Johnson.

Casual 49 run partnership for the 10th wicket.

Yes losing Haze was a huge impact but we just let the game drift sometimes.
Situations like the final 30mins of play today is where we miss a leg-spinner (doesn't have to be at the world-class standard that Warne was, but someone who can at least get good drift and turn on their stock leg break delivery): they just have that natural variation that off-spinners such as Lyon doesn't. Unless the pitch is offering a lot for spinners, Lyon's been found wanting in scenarios such as today.

Felt like I was watching day 5 of that 2021 SCG test all over again.

Yeah there is a couple of others, main point we need to do something pretty soon

Hazlewoods replacement should be a young buck, but its a bloke who probably has 12 months left

Do we really need to go over this for another summer? It's not the 70's the captain isn't out there swinging his dick around. The coach and system pick the fields and bowlers

gee we wasted the ball in that last hour, bowling short shit to tailenders, that's not how we got the top order out

you have to wonder why we went off when there was 2 commentators standing there talking when it wasn't raining, then a tail ender hits Paddy into the next post code but the umpires say it too dangerous to bat, f**king lols

if it s too dangerous, turn the f**king lights on, we had about another hour to go

Regarding the fast bowling succession plan...

One of either Starc or Hazlewood has to go from the test team by no later than the Ashes next summer. Cummins keeps his place (at least until the 2027 Ashes tour) as he's the captain and by far the most accurate and consistent of the Aussie fast bowler trio.

Boland will be nothing more than a stop-gap option. Even as a stop-gap option, his days are numbered, given he'll be 36 next year. Don't want to see another James Anderson trundling around well past their useby date into their early 40s.

Michael Neser will end up being the Andy Bichel of the millenial's generation: very unfortunate that his cricket career overlapped with Starc/Cummins/Hazlewood, hence was confined to nothing more than licking the crumbs off the king's plate. Should've definitely played at The Oval in last year's Ashes tour, but is well down the selector's pecking order given that he couldn't play a test despite his form.

I agree with Brett Lee on The Big Break program today: whichever long-term fast bowling prospect is the next one to make their test debut needs to be in their 20s (preferably early-mid 20s, so we can get around 10 years from them) and can consistently bowl 145km/h +. The express pace in Australian conditions does make a difference, as the Aussies found out when Shamar Joseph was able to consistently nudge 150km/h last summer.
