Rabada sprayed it around and Renshaw gave him absolutely nothing, challenging him to produce a jaffa because there won't be any freebies.

10 overs for 13/0 in infinitely better than 10 overs for an epic smashed up 40/2

It's been real good batting. I'd almost have Warner at five now that he hasn't been able to open...Smith at three, Handscombe at 4, Warner at 5. Get some experience in that middle order.
That shan't be happening.

you'd drop a broke averaging 48?

20 years ago in those conditions against those bowlers, Warner would have averaged 28 and wouldn't even be considered for the Australian C grade.

P.S. Edit: I wouldn't drop Warner by the way, he's just a product of the times which requires far less temperament batting skill as a test opener.

I don't agree with that. I think Warner is a very good player, and he's shown he can absolutely score runs in tough situations. I think the issue is he's been pretty out of form, and that kind of player wants to get bat on ball and feel their way back into form...

Hats off to Renshaw and Kawahja. Didn't look easy out there, but they found a way to survive.
That was not what Faf had in mind when he declared.
We're in the game at least with a chance to do something tomorrow to reverse some fortunes.

Well done lads, great effort none down which is most important.

Just a shame we didn't score at least 50 off those 12 overs with 5 or 6 flashy boundaries.

Nah mate, awful effort. Not enough attacking shots, definitely the way to get out in hese situations....

I'd bat him a 5 these days. We don't have the luxury of his swash buckling style at opener any more. He exposes the middle order too early too often. He can counter attack at 5.

He wouldn't produce the same sort of results, I would argue that he needs that new ball coming onto the bat

Yep, I would. See how he goes at 5 or even 6. That said I've always thought he would make a good 3 coming in after 2 steady openers.

Its not bad logic.

New ball bowling is seeing a bit of a comeback. loads of runs are coming from the middle order.

So there is some argument to playing three openers at 1,2 and 3 and your best player at 4 or 5 like england have done for years
