not taking him to India is choosing the right personnel for the conditions, they would then still take him to England for the Ashes, especially because he knows the conditions being a county player there. Taking him to India and then axing him would mean no ashes and piss off

Hughes does have issues against spin....but, I hate to say it, I'd put him on the plane to India...he needs to get experience in spin conditions.

agreed

if he is gonna stay in the team he needs to play spin alot better, he's a bit like a deer in the headlights

going to India will be a great learning curve for him

You'd be a terrible selector. But that isn't saying much considering the actual selectors are terrible too.

You want to avoid dropping him for a 3rd time. And in your view not picking an incumbent is not dropping him. So you won't pick him for India but you will pick him for England. And what if his replacement scores a mountain of runs in India? Do you drop the guy making runs. Or do you drop Hughes "for real" this time, which is what you were trying to avoid in the first place.

The much more logical plan would be to pick him for India with the attitude that even if he has 4 bad tests in India he will play in the Ashes. Because struggling in India is not something rare or unique. It is not the end of the world. Some of our greatest ever batsman have struggled in India. You wouldn't kill a career over 1 bad series in India.

Send him to India. Get him experience against a spin heavy attack on a spinning pitch. It would be the best thing for him and the team in the long term.

Hopefully CA prepare some of the Shield pitches as rank turners to get guys like Hughes who have very little idea against the spinning ball,a better preparation for India..

Not every pitch, but we don't want to see any green tops..

I think they should appeal anything that's close just to keep some pressure on (something they really failed to do in the last test).

BunniesMan, I really can't be bothered reading your dribble any more. Please stop posting it.

If Hughes fails in India, it would probably be a big fail that would cause him to mentally implode, he needs to work on his issues against spin in friendlier environments first

Quick poll, what will Cowan get out for?

Hussey and Clarke banging this out seems fitting.

Might as well put him on your ignore list. I would except for the fact that he provides so many lols

He's not suffering from depression. A struggle on dry dusty turners will not damage him when he goes out to bat on green decks.
