Lol, Ponting thinks Marnus Labuschagne should be a lock for the Ashes. FMD.

He's played one innings and made 38 on a flat deck

The surprise is that it is our bowling that has been shown up. It was predictable that the batting would be affected but the bowling has been made look ordinary as the series has gone on.

It's OK. When we are bowling the pitch is to blame.

Ten minutes later when we are batting it is the selectors that are at fault.

The Indian side has nothing to do with it.

FMD cricket fans are a bunch of sheep who love BS excuses.

Yehp, unfortunately the talent just isn't there at the moment and there is no miracle around the corner. Fans & media seem to be expecting the next McGrath, Waugh, Ponting, Hayden, Gilchrist & Warne to be all wasting away waiting for a chance in shield cricket. Or that level of talent to magically appear in players like Marsh, Head, Paine & Handcombe just by giving them a baggy green. Reality is players of that calibre come along so rarely it was a real blessing to get them all together in the same golden generation.

Like it or not India and at least a couple of other teams are just better than Australia at the moment, times change. Smith will help but we may never see a period of dominance like the 00's ever again, and if there is anything close chances are it'll be in another nation's team.

I’m ok with not having 00’s dominance, just a simple mid to late 90’s would do

This is just how this forum was back in the 80’s

Re selectors: they dont help themselves by the apparant treatment of certain guys, epecially Burns and Renshaw in most recent times.
*edit...add Labs to that list...putting him in at 3 is criminally bad for his game, especially when he will invariably get dropped for failing.

I think the cricket fans fully realise that we cant always have a team choc full of superstars, but I don't think anyone who follows, or plays the game believe the selection panel have a clue.

And then to pick someone like a Siddle for the 1day side seems to be bordering on insanity, when we should be building for a WC.

The apparant lack of accountability of poor selection, and poor coaching/man management is another gripe.

Pitches cant be blamed for our shtfulness, both sides play on the same deck.

Punter is kidding himself. Ditto for Warnie and Skull.

When bad light stopped play they were chatting and Skull asked Warnie about Labs at 3 and Warnie gave him a pass mark and Skull agreed with him.

What the actual f**k ?

We are chasing 6/640 on a highway and 3 and 4 are your best batsmen so I would expect 3 figures, or at least 50 or 60 as a pass mark. My god we accept mediocrity far too easy.

The only pass mark for mine would be Harris, everyone else is a fail on this pitch.

Also good to see Handscomb has done something about his stance, he is clearly batting about half a metre forward compared to his previous stance, Huss showed it in a graphic pretty well.

Its like being an alcoholic, firstly you have to admit you have a problem and in an interview after he was dropped he said he was sick of hearing about his technique but it seems to have got through to him.

Harris throws a 100 away on a road with a poor shot and he gets a hug from the coach, I remember a story from Dean jones when he tried to bring a 100 up before stumps.

He went for one and was dropped the ball got through and he scored a 4 and brought up his ton. He knew he had played a poor shot and he knew AB would be pissed at him, Deano waited 30mins before he got back in the dressing room and there was AB still waiting for him and gave it to him deluxe. Called him selfish and if he ever played a shot like that again he’d be out on his arse.

No wonder why we don’t have killer a instinct when we get a hug from the Hippy Moron space cadet no matter how bad a shot we play. And 79 is almost 3 ticks anyway.

Yep India are a good side, regardless of who's playing they're better ATM

Very well said Jim. We were very lucky to have had that gifted group of players all around at the same time. We can shuffle the team all we like....but no team that could have been selected would have beaten India this time round.

Australian cricket has a number of issues, first it has to take control of its own domain, which maybe easier said than done considering the tv networks want what’s best for themselves and not necessarily Australian cricket.
Scheduling has to be a priority, shield cricket is the pathway to test cricket and should be played before and during the current test series ,the longer state cricket is neglected the longer our test team will struggle,it is ludicrous that there is only bbl being played at the moment, this format has a place but it’s not an accurate guide for test selection and should be pushed back in scheduling until the test series is complete.
The recent test results and alarming statistics of our test and first class cricketers suggest that change is needed to our scheduling, the majority of current players lack the ability and talent to adjust to the different cricket formats when the scheduling is mixed, until this is addressed our test results will continue to suffer.

I agree with your points 100%. Sad thing is, by far the best time to play Big Bash (which is an absolute cash cow despite its alarmingly falling standard this season) is now. Big Bash would fail if it is played in the other ten months of the year.

Just putting a bit of perspective on this.

Labs debuted at 3, got 38 and no wickets but is a lock for the Ashes according to many commentators including Punter.

Hilton Cartright debuted for Autralia, made 37 and got no wickets and got dropped after 1 game.

My, how the bar has been lowered and mediocrity is now the norm.

The lasagna guy is busier and fantastic in the nets

Weird to watch from afar but Burns really is strange, he's limited no mistake but at least showed he can do ok in flat conditions
