1. Fast bowling being on top with wickets falling (essentially what we have had so far this series).

2. Batting a challenge but 1 maybe 2 batsmen grafting out a big backs to the wall innings. That tour of England when Smith scored all our runs was perfect.

3. Off spin opening the bowling if horrific.

I only hate ramp shots because they are ugly as f**k and it is cheating to change the grip.

Seeing Kostas bitch about 3 being behind the wicket is what prompted me to suggest that rule be changed. If the batsman can change his grip when the bowler is hitting the crease then the field should be able to sneakily change as well.

I think you need variety. Sometimes it will be more one-sided and I think that is fine.

I don't see an issue with spin bowling early. It was a correct tactic to Konstas and in the sub-continent it's a no brainer. The conditions or the situation dictates what you do which is part of the beauty of the sport.

And again Konstas isn't going to make a career out of ramp shots. No one has in the history of the sport. It's still like the reverse it's a low percentage play. India aren't going to be worried about him playing it.

Konstas played plenty of other shots too.

Nah, Dont think we do that

Mercifully sledge the bloke, get in his face, bounce him etc....but not intentionally do what Kholi did

Remember first tour Kholi was captain here., and we sledged one of their youngsters. Kholi came out in the media had a cry, said a young guy shouldnt be sledged like that...

Perhaps not but we've always been an aggressive team. Ponting used to throw the ball directly at the batsman to get them off their game (And he had a bullet arm).

Kohli is brash just like Ganguly was.

Is Root still scoring plenty that way? He is scoring plenty I just dont know if it is still with those french cricket shots.

Like I've said, I am fine with the ugly Frech cricket shots in the game so long as they change up some rules like I've suggested. Namely, fielders behind the wicket should be able to move around into different positions "behind the batsmen's back".

Root has scored the bulk of his test runs playing conventional cricket. He has added the ramp to his game in recent years.

You don't need to suddenly run players around behind his back? Just put a fielder there to start with. But you'll find most teams won't because it's a low percentage shot that even a great player like Joe Root will stuff up at some point. I don't see the concern because it's still one of the least played shots in the modern game.

There was a theory that our top order collapsed when Warner stopped getting runs. Konstas got us off to a flyer today and it’s the best Marnus and Uzzy have looked in a while.

It’s not exactly a theory.

Opening batsmen setting up a good platform generally leads to top & middle order having a good foundation laid to go on with it.

Australia have strived at having one aggressive opener for the last 3 decades. It’s an ingredient that works for us.

That is like having fielders on the boundary early in a test match innings. Which, except for fine leg, a position you need as part of an attacking strategy of bowling swing at the stumps, is ultra defensive. Fans want fielders in attacking positions as much as possible.

It's fine as a plan for one batsman who has a weird penchant for ramp shots. One lone fielder won't ruin the rest of the setup.

There is no ramp shot endemic in cricket so we have nothing to worry about.
