I wonder if the Australian selectors are sitting back thinking to themselves "f**k we've picked a good side."

Beer finally gets a wicket.

Dumb play by Collingwood. Out of form, low on runs, you'd think he's the exact type of player to try and grind himself back into form. Guess not.

Beer is looking dangerous. Lot's of half chances that with a bit of luck and a confident, in form fielding side around would be out. He's come a long way since I last saw him play.

Not afraid to flight the ball, decent control, gets some decent bounce and bowls at the right pace.

Way better than Doherty for a start.

Yes well Ponting certainly never helped Hauritz.

No he didn't and I would like to see what Clarke would do Hauritz it always seemed like Ponting didn't want to use Hauritz but Clarke seems prepared to back his bowlers it's just a shame they don't bowl to his fields.

I think you need to change 'his' to 'any'

WTF was Hughes doing?

He knew he didn't catch it and then decided to throw the ball in the air to celebrate

I thought it was pretty clear he indicated he had NFI whether it bounced our not with the massive shrug and the look of anguish as he bounced up...then threw the ball towards the umpire as is required? Haddin as well, nothing much from him. It was only really Beer and Clarke, who was obscured at slip, who went up in any real way.

Anyway, been impressed with Beer after bagging his selection at first. He's not amazing but he's had good spin and flight and he's worked very hard. I don't think he'll keep SOK out for long, but he seems a solid option and more dangerous than Hauritz. Clarke's captaincy, too, has been very good...nice field settings, and good bowling changes and use of the bowlers (finally, a skipper who'll give our one genuine swing threat in Watson a good run!)

Has set good fields, but would have liked to have seen Smith get a trundle.
