Acting Professional - when a player leaves a club

The only unprofessional thing is when CEOs have a sook about it. I've got no issue with a coach deciding to drop a player who is leaving so as not to waste anymore time developing them for another club (think Bennett with Hodges).

if you are still in a chance to make the finals you always play your best team.

otherwise 10 to 20% of nrl players will have to be dropped to from first grade as thats about how many players change clubs !

If someone I employed was going to the opposition, I'd shake their hand, wish them well and tell them to clean out their desk and hand over the car keys.

I can't ever recall seeing someone going to the opposition in a normal business allowed to work their time out, ever.

Rugby League clubs are professional, but they're not bound by the same set of "rules" as the rest of us.

Richo referring to "Sandow having found his Alan Bond", has got nothing to do with Bond being a crook (as some people on the Forum have suggested).
Bond was famous for buying the Nine network from Packer for $1 Billion in 1987, and then selling it back to him for around half a billion, just 3 years later.
It was the classic "paying overs" - to the tune of about $500 million.

Professional is not allowing someone who is going to your opposition continued access to your records and/or files. Players aren't in that sort of position but the basics are the same.

That we don't expect it from our clubs is more to do with the way we've been conditioned to accepting it not happening rather than whether it should or shouldn't.

I wouldn't have a problem with a coach dropping a player who has signed with another club to A Grade for the rest of the season or paying them out and pissing them off.
