I didn't watch the NYC game yesterday but I heard he was a pedestraen again, can anyone confirm.

just on poaching our players, I've said this for a while, this club must change it's mentallity and philosiphy in the way they devevelop players and start fighting fire with fire.

What, by paying $150 000 for someone else's unproven junior?

Without knowing for sure id reckon none of Jamie Soward, Ben Roberts and Luke Walsh would be over the 150K mark this season.

How do you propose we fight fre with fire? Soemtimes I get the feeling that our club loves to produce Juniors only to see them go to other clubs. My comments were directed more towards the old board.

no, but approaching them would be a good start...btw I don't think the sharks paid 150K for him.

well Rod Reddy should be expanding his talent identification skills to the NYC competition rather than then country and remote areas of Queensland and New Zealand..

just a thought.

i think Bigfella was asking how much have parra invested in him up to this point - not how much did we offer

which i think would be interesting to know - altho almost impossible to put a price on .... his actual payments, cost of schooling, cost of board and the hours put into chsing him and getting him to school and games etc

This is why our game so deperately needs transfer fees. So for the Sharks to sign Kelly, they would pay Parra a transfer fee of 25k for example. That fee is then included in the Sharks cap and excluded from ours !

Hard to have a transfer fee for an off contract player.

Maybe he got a 3rd party deal from the bloke with the 72 dodgy life insurance claims?

So how much did we spend on this kid to never play an NRL game for us - half a million?

Why spend this dough on kids at that level?

Why not save it and compete for seasoned players in the halves?

Cynical I know, and if clubs like us, Dragons, Panthers and Knights take that approach the NRL won't be fending off AFL and Rugby the way it is doing now.

good idea.

if Parra and Penrith said we're going to stop spending millions developing talent in Sydneys West the NRL would sh*t themselves with AFL spending a fortune to get a team there

something needs to be done

Melbourne have been in 4 GF's and won two of them without 1 junior. they've also made the finals most years

f**k spending money developing players when you're better off not doing so and just poaching the best from other clubs

To be fair to Melbourne, this year one of their junior team got into the final and consisted mostly of local players. That is something to applaud the Storm. It was always going to take time for Melbourne to develop their own local talent. Whether the local players will stand the test of time and play in first grade we will have to wait and see, but I wouldn't criticize the Storm on NOT producing any local talent thus far just because of where they play.

Exactly. The only more difficult market in Australia for an NRL team would be Adelaide.

but it shows that you don't need juniors to be successful

they've achieved more than just about every other club in the last 10 years without 1 junior

so why waste money on them?

they just get poached anyway

let the NRL loook after it and each club can contribute a set amount of dollars each year towards development

Agreed, but I don't think Melbourne is the best example. It's hardly their fault that they are in an awfully difficult city to nurture talent.
If ya going to have a shot at anyone, make it Manly.

Also, I like the bit in red.

I can confirm that!

There was one play where it was the 5th and Brisbane had just had a great defensive set and we were about 40 metres out from our own line and Kelly put up a ridiculously stupid bomb and all the players were off-side and Brisbane got a penalty......it was a terrible play.

He may have all the talent in the world but his attitude is garbage, if he only had a quarter of his cousins attitude he would already be playing NRL!

I think Amosa is coming along nicely tbh, seems to have his head screwed on.
