And after that? Where was he playing in the 1995 World Cup?
1996 origin?
2000 origin?

The "greatest" halfback of all time was playing behind the likes of Geoff Toovey and Brett Kimmorley

It's not Joey's fault the NSW selectors were douches. ;-)

LOL Charlie

Kind of like saying lockyer is better cos he's won ore grand finals, Lockyer had better players around him than Johns probably ever had. In the year that Newcastle won the spoon Johns was struggling on the back of a knee reconstruction for the early part of the season before breaking his jaw and missing another set of time. After the jaw injury and tearing qld a new arsehole in origin he damn near dragged Newcastle out of the spoon, despite the fact they were well behind. All this with some of the sh*ttest Knights sides we've seen (great job Hagan).

As for Johns playing at hooker with langer at half, would you put langer at hooker? f**k no, he could tackle at half back let alone elsewhere. Johns had the skills to play at hooker if needed even if he was better at halfback.

Chucky comes from the school of thought that reasons that John Rheinberger was the greatest player in history. Same line of thinking proclaims Jordan Atkins after round 1 2008 was 4 times better than Irvine.

We waited for the Queenslander to swarm in defence of Heather and Mal last night. They sent Chuck. Sort of like 300 Spartans waiting for the Persian Hordes and their massive armies to attack, and when it came, it consisted on one dazed camel and a bag of cashews.

Look - This argument gets tiresome.
We're trying to argue completely different positions.

If we have to look at it in pure player ability and effect than it is Johns.
People can be successful in two ways, playing to their talents or working hard to get where they are.

Lockyer, has worked hard for where he is - He worked his *ss off to become a dominant and best in code pivot, staying at fullback and playing to his talents may have changed this.

Johns did not have to go to Lockyer's length, I have no doubt he worked hard but he was a game breaker with his presence and pure talent.

Lockyer doesn't have anything signature - He's very good at what he does, but that's going to happen with experience.
Joey had plenty of signatures and used them at different times regularly and executing them on his own without anyone else.

If you want to compare Johns to someone in Lockyer's era, give JT five years.
And no doubt I'll hear some howls with that comment - But we'll see.

Johns was apart of the 2005 tri series squad...which we lost
(Neither lockyer or Johns played in the final game though)

I was at the World Cup Final. Lockyer worked his arse off in that game with little or no support from those around him. Definitely not his fault we lost (though dropping the ball over the line didn't help). Slater, on the other hand, had a very big part in us losing, and hasn't played a decent game since (notwithstanding his Dally M point in round 1 for his worst-on-ground performance).

Johns might be a better football player but Lockyer has the better singing voice.

That means everything. Lockyer it is.

It's not Joey's fault the NSW selectors were douches. ;-)

I was waiting for someone to say it. I rate Kimmorley, but it wasn't Johns' fault he was playing behind him, it was becuase the selectors had absolutely no brains.

When we wanted a clown for April 1st...they sent you...except you though april 1st was april 3rd.

Great comeback. Everyone except you has forgotten that by now. BTW: I responded on the 4th;-) by getting abusive.

Im not saying it is at all, but if saab can pull out 'Lockyer never won a wooden spoon' when newcastles spoon had very little to do with Johns then you can counter with the world cup arguement.
