Isn't it fact that less than 20% of SSFC members actually live in the South Sydney district?
And Souths can't claim exclusivity on working class roots as the whole game was created in Australia for the fair go and pay for play of RL players. Balmain, Norths (poor area, low socio-economic conditionx prior to the bridge in 1932 - just saying), Newtown, Glebe...all working areas. Fug me, Easts were too. Souths were no different.
And Souths downturn in the 1970s coincided with a decline in the working class and the lowering of socio-economic conditions in the 1980s. That's why they left Redfern for the SFS. That's why they struggled to keep players from 1990. They were almost the last to move in to the 21st century because of a pig headed "but we're Souths, Pride of the League". Whilst everyone pulled up their sox Souths lagged until it was too late. Hell...even the 2006 sale was mired in bullshit and myth.
Funny how Piggins and Coote and Sattler were well earning business men with lots of dosh but Souths as a team and club couldn't.
Don't be filthy at Angus. Be filthy at the club for letting him go. But that seems to be a trend now. Walker, Keary, Brown, Angus...
