He isn't getting any younger, so he is certainly NOT offering what he used to in attack ... his running game has dropped this year

But his defence has been mostly good - he's still in there making hard tackles in the middle

As far as attitude change goes - I don't think any of us have a clue if he's helping that - but we are NOT seeing the results are we? Unless changing attitude makes no difference and we still come last regardless. The "attitude changing" didn't start when Choc came here - it started last year. So we're at about 18 months. How long might it take? .... I actually think we ARE tougher - I can see games where we have a good attitude - keep putting in despite losing .... what I see is we are dumb - we don't play smart and we have 2 halves that are erratic

Agree 100%

And thats why Scott/Foran (and hopefully another back) will make a massive difference, providing more leadership and experience to the side. Plus a quality half with some brains - Foran is they player you need in games like last night.

He has been solid at best, his defence is still very good but his attack is almost non existent. It wouldn't be such a big deal if he wasn't on such huge coin and only 1 year into a 4 year deal. Problem is he has seemed to lost his leg speed and for such an undersized forward that is massive but hardly surprising for a bloke who has played nearly 300 games by 31.

can't wait to see what he will be offering us by year 4, Ben Smith eat your heart out.........

TBH I haven't seen too much from Foran or Scott this year to substantiate that claim. Their current teams don't appear to be doing much better than us even with them. In fact they are 2 of only three wins we've had!

I realise they have had injury but they are just as likely to suffer injury next year with us as well.

So how likely were they to suffer injury this year? And if your answer (after the fact) is '100% likely', are you saying Scott and Foran are 100% likely to miss as many games with injury next year?

Both of them will be, as they will both be older. Older players are more susceptible to injury. And take longer to recover from them. But we are paying for their experience. Leave Britney alone.

No way. When we buy injury prone players they have gone great guns for us of late. I hope we continue the trend set by Tonga, Champion and Mossop. Excellent signings.

I don't think we can assume players are old now once they turn 30.

I think the retirement age for league players is changing due to better training / diets / technology etc.

It was common for players to retire at 30 with a few going a few more years until 32. But looking at players now a lot more are now pushing their careers until around 35 and still playing decent footy. Just a rough guess but the following players look like playing until close to or near to their mid 30's

Watmough, Scott, Thurston , Cameron smith, Gallen, cooper, bird, jemery smith, slater, myles, Richards, manu, mason, just to name a few.

In a few more years I reckon 35 or so will be a common retirement age.

I'm saying it's a given they will suffer more at Parra than anywhere else

Who was the last established first grader we signed that actually performed better for us than they did their previous club?

While I don't disagree with what you have actually written am just curious why you didn't list any parra players amongst that group :D

Maybe in year 4 Choc will try and destablise our club, by sprouting lies on a website while running for the Board elections?

I heard Choc today on MMM. He was guest commentator.

I like the cut of his jib. He's a no nonsense merkin who makes footy sound so simple. He is a team player and talks the talk. He tells his team mates that no matter what happens, I will be there beside you. You kick I will chase. I believe him.

On Sandow, he says that no half can play well unless his forwards are winning the battle. He said no half, not even Thurston will shine if he is on the backfoot. BA said that the Eels win 4 games when Sandow plays well. Choc says that in those 4 games all the forwards played as a team and won the battle in the middle. That's why Sandow was able to play well.

On the Pauli / Sandow tackle, he said that at the Eels we'll be looking at doing more of it. It was not late (in his opinion) and (I'm paraphrasing) said that it happens all the time and would not be an issue today in the Johns Bros did not go on about it and ratings grab. He inferred that Soward was soft.

Yeah. I like Watmough. Always gives his all. And he suggested what I did, that Sandow can play well when the forwards do their job. Which is why I was annoyed by Arthur's post-game comment. Just suck it up, Brad.

Paul Kent said that the reason why BA dropped Sandow was because he can't follow a game plan. Choc agreed that he can't do structure. They all agreed that he must be a coach's worst nightmare.

Choc agreed that he can't do structure? And that he must be a coach's worst nightmare? Where was this?
