Anthony Griffin

He clearly contributed. My only contention is Griffin's point about us being a shambles and not doing any constructive work towards it.

He might of been right. We got slammed injury wise in 2014 and 2015 remember. We know Moylan, Soward missed games. Wallace had 2 ACL's previously so we may of but I can't see it being Ivan's doing given we want him back

Life goes on peeps. The Griffin interview was hard to watch but at the same time, it was just one person's opinion.

I believe that the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

Everyone seems to have an opinion or, know what really happened. This simple fact is, nobody but those involved know the reasons why things broke down and why we ended up here. People that talk to Griffin will hear his side of the story and make their minds up. People will talk to Gould and do the same. People will talk to the greens keeper who mows the academy lawns and make there minds up on what he has seen or heard.

The simple fact is, our club felt that although there would be a massive story behind this and reputations would be smashed, it had to part ways with the coach for one or several reasons. Running a business is sometimes hard and tough decisions need to be made....perceived as popular or unpopular.

It's time for us all to get behind the boys now and get to as many games as possible between now and Grand Final day. If you can afford to fly to Auckland or drive to Melbourne, try and do so. I think we are all about to witness a special 2 months in the history of the Penrith Panthers.

He may have exaggerated it to save face, i have no idea. But i'm sure Gus did the exact same thing.
Exaggerated? He pretty much suggested the whole club top to bottom needed fixing and he did that.

He also talked as though this was a wooden spoon side when he arrived. Nevermind it being top 4 the year before that.

Our spine in 2015 only played 2 full games together. Rounds 1 and 2 for great wins. Thr next time they werd together was the match where Moylan got injured.

Rounds 1 and 2 in 2015 were the only full games our spine played together that year.

We didn't have depth in our spine that year. Nathan Cleary was too young and TMM had not yet arrived.

Our entire 1-7 missed around half a season or more. Ssm Mckendry our only starting plsyer to go the whole season. Which is kind of funny looking back

Mckendry. Latimore and RCG were the only guys not to be injured.

The media at the time was saying that Penrith would have been the best 'wooden spoon' side ever if we hadn't of beaten Newcastle on that Saturday afternoon.

We were smashed by injuries.

Interesting that Griffin said Penrith was in bad shape when he got here and had to rebuild it and at the end of the interview said that Ivan did a great job. Which one is it?

Start of this year many (including myself) said we had no depth this year. Yet we have injuries on par with that and are running 5th... So something is going right in comparison. No one person is responsible though

I don't think we were in bad shape due to Ivan. More due to injuries... I didn't hear him say it was Ivan. Just bad shape

He said the junior and lower grade systems were bad. Isn't that the responsibility of the head coach? Maybe he was blaming Gould? I am not sure now.

Well wr gigured based on how many we lost our depth was shit. In our backs we were right.

Forwards though are stacked

We slso had 10 players in this years top 30 who played under Ivan in 2015. Not 6.

Dwz
Mansour
Blake
Peachey
Whare
Rcg
Katoa
Wallace
Mckendry
Yeo

Edit
The 10 players was a general comment. Not directed at you.

Griffin was brought in to replace Cleary and says the players needed to be knocked into shape.

“They had a lot of juniors but no systems, no structures,” Griffin told NRL 360.

“They had no staff or resources applied to turning those players into NRL players, and there’s a big difference between having juniors and having potential NRL players.

“The structures, the training ethics, the attention to detail on the skill acquisition, all those things from the senior side down were in terrible shape.

Not sure who it is at really. Some people think the coach should only have a say in top squad. Not sure what is the correct answer just that atm whatever we are doing is working. I doubt it is all from the coach though

Thats all bullshit though.

Our lower grade results between 2013 and 2015 were outstanding. Alot of NRL players came from those teams aswell. Some very good ones.

Probably aimed at Gould. Funny though because we had won the U20's in 2013 and 2015 by the time Griffin arrived. Surely something was moving in the right direction.

Yet our NSW Cup team is 7 points clear. Despite losing key players at various times and we have been top 8 all year despite injuries.

Most of it is the hard work or skill of the players in these cases. I think coaches get too much credit/Blame if results don't work out. Though the fact a few are internationals now looks good on a coach.

I think that is the best thing to come from it. We are stacked now I think sooner the fact we pushed Soward and a few out earlier. It probably helped push Gus' as hook put it Impatience with the side not being better

Yeah I think he just moved the timetable up a bit. A few guys probably debuted before they should of

The year before matters not at all. Ivan gave up in 2015, he said after the Parramatta game in Darwin that we could not make the finals even though we still had a chance. This I think is symptomatic of the issues that led Gus to showing him the door and calling him tired. But at least he waited until the season was over.
