He'd let them play attacking football.

Yep for sure. I just think he handled himself so well over the origin period. Took some risks, backed himself and the young players and just did things completely differently to the last few NSW coaches, that takes balls.

Outgunned how?

They used 13 debutants through the series. Queensland had an established superstar backline

I rate the NSW spine and pack significantly higher than QLD's (particularly without Slater) before the series though QLD had a decent advantage on the edges. I thought NSW had significant issues gaining meters out of their own end and with their bench rotation that never really got addressed.

They spoke about how they were trying to address the metres but again 11 debutants at the highest level of footy are probably going to struggle at times. He got them defending as good as ive seen from any origin team, getting that mental toughness in a young squad is very impressive. You will not see better goal line defence than game 3.

Yeah true. It wasn't without positives, I just thought the problems never really got addressed which takes some credit away from the series win for me. Wasn't impressed with his interviews either. Very very casual which just couldn't be the attitude for a guy that needs to get a team through 29 weeks of footy.

Fine with him being NSW coach ftr. Just far from convinced he'd be any good at club level.

Not certain it will be Fittler.

Though if it is, you must wonder...why on earth did we sign Anthony Griffin in the first place?

His interviews? Mate he had that team fired up and ready to play for all 3 games with 11 rookies who cares how casual his interviews were. If it had shown in the teams performance maybe....but it didn’t at all.

The footy could’ve been better but again all these new players in a new arena, it’s not going to be perfect. He had their attitudes right though and had them defending brilliantly. If penrith had been able to maintain our attitude in defence this season we’d still be in the top four.

Why does anyone want that stress?? Are you inside his head?? Far out mate you accuse of me of pushing my opinions as fact your in here talking like you what Fitler is thinking. He obviously has an interest in coaching, he’s been doing it since he retired, he’s just a footy head.

I don’t know what ‘too hippy’ means but I daresay it’s that kind of thinking that left us with a bunch of boring ass nrl coaches all copying off each other(going back a couple years).

Look at hooks innovation, it’s all just placing restrictions on players(banning attacking kicks etc). New thinking is desperately needed in the coaching ranks IMO. Id love to be the club that started it.

You assumed he wants to coach NRL. I merely stated the opposite might be true. I think Sterlo would of made a great coach. He was happy not doing it.

Doesn't Ciraldo do our attack? No reason he can't start it as our guys develop more

He would. How would he handle short turnarounds? Salary Cap restrictions? Etc.

He had 10 months to prepare his squad for an opposition he knew. QLD only have 40 odd players eligible remember.

Big difference the 2. Not saying he can't but every year a coaching chance comes along. Never has he shown an interest

I’m not assuming mate I’m responding to a rumour posted by someone else by saying I’d be happy if it’s true and giving my reasons for why he might be a success.

He only had 3 weeks with the blues team, most had never played together or played origin and yet he had the team looking like a very tight nit bunch who were ready to play for each other and again he got some of the most impressive defensive commitment out of them that you will ever see, it’s taken Hook 2 years to get penrith to show just a little bit of defensive consistency and we are still not always up for games. I know the challenges of coaching an nrl team are very different to being a rep coach but I think if he does want it he’d is worth a shot. I’ve always liked his ideas about footy.

How much was the origin team worth? It is the best of the best so easy to look good.

It is harder doing it week in week out from Nov to Oct. With a team that has more limitations than an NRL team

Of course. That's not justification enough to say he'd fail though. The only way to know is to get him to do it.

Best thing Fittler did was clean out the side. I thought he picked a terrific squad throughout the series & it definitely took some balls & he deserves credit for it.

Let’s be real though, QLD were there for the taking. Cam Smith saw the sinking ship a couple of weeks out & jumped off. Daley (if he had the same side) would of won the series.

I doubt that. Laurie Daley kept on picking players who were not in form, or who were toxic for the team dynamics.

Of course it doesn't mean he can't just many differences between the 2 roles.

The NRL isn't set up for attacking play anyway. Fixing time wasting doesn't seem to be on the agenda to fix anytime soon. So the boring coaches stay relevant
