I back to players to get a result no matter who is coach. Once they hit the field it is all on them. As long as the new coach can work with the squad we have.

We already know Aekins can't play. Who else can't play due to the cap? Only Gus knows. Maybe there is reasons many are playing injured

We know Phillps left. We know Wallace came in. Due to coach error or not? Again only Gus knows..

Have we under performed? We don't know Gus or the board's expectations nor has I season finished to answer that.

All will be sorted before next pre season. Until then this talk is pointless

I wouldn't say pointless. I quite enjoy discussing these finer points and even theorizing.

The biggest thing in your comment for me is what the board has set as it's expectations. I wonder if Brandy's frustrated comments on injured players is a hint that they aren't being entirely met. I've never known Brandy to come out with club talk like that.

Like you said we will find out in good time though.

It could be that or could be injuries are stopping us from being what we can be.

Indeed. If it is injuries I agree with MX in the other thread. They need to be smarter picking the team. We have an opportunity to play someone fit and capable so do it or Maloney has to make sure he has a damn good game.

Assuming May comes in. What if we play Egan and it earns him a bonus which comes off next year's cap? Can we go in without a bench hooker? That sort of stuff often goes on behind the scenes.

If Egan had any bonus that was to be activated by playing why would we have picked him ahead of Luai and May for so long? It's a cop out.

If this is our best 17 available it should be judged as such. No excuses now. Jimmy claims to be close to full fitness now. He has no distractions (ie. Origin) to use as an excuse. No one does.

Our focus should be winning as many games as we can and getting to finals with everyone fit and ready to go. Jimmy to play in his 4th grand final for his 3rd win.

That's all well and good but people can't complain if we call players out for a bad game now. Conversely they'll get credit for playing good.

Have you seen me call out people for a bad game? I don't rate Crichton or Phillips. Ellis seems like a plodder but I rarely comment though

Players usually have a bonus for debuting and when they hit 10 games. It goes on to the next years cap.

Egan sits at 9 games ATM. I guess we see if he gets to 10.

Fletcher came out and said we have to pay $45k on Origin bonuses. No idea if the NZ guys had the same clauses

If he had a 10 game bonus it makes no sense to waste a bunch of games on him and not give May and Luai a run in his place.

What happens if we actually needed him later on with no other options? Would be pretty poor management of our squad to do that.

But then IMO selecting busted players ahead of fit alternatives is pretty poor squad management too. It's great to see guys like Brandy also pissed off about it

Let's say the NZ reps had the $10k clause as the Origin Reps did. That is $60k there. What if the 6 debutants had a $10k bonus for making their debut?

That is already up to $120k before you even pay guys for next year. That is why during the off season when clubs do reviews they shed players to stop from going over.

Every off season from plenty of clubs players move on. As guys get unexpected end of season rep call ups etc.

That is all part of the end of season review every club does. If those in charge think we under perform than things like playing guys injuried, potential bonuses hampering team selection. Not using coaches correctly ( in the case of Phillps) all come up and that is how they decide to punt staff

You're making up these potential bonuses as a reason not to select someone which whether they existed or not still doesn't excuse the point I made.

If Egan has a bonus activated after 10 games (we don't know that he does) , why would we play him waste all 9 games that the bonus isn't activated by selecting him ahead of May and Luai for so long and leaving us with no wiggle room should we need him now?

That would be terrible squad management. The second Wallace was seriously injured you would think we would look at the scenarios we could be faced wiyh anf make sure if we needed Egan he would be available

Wasn't May and Luai out injured for a while?

Yep May was out until Bathurst. Egan's debut Katoa was unavailable. Then Wallace started missing games. All these things add up to making sides over the cap if not watched.

We aren't to know Egan is available each week. Those who do will make the decisions when it comes to stuff like coaches being sorted

Luai was named to debut in Round 4 and we then changed our mind and gave Egan his debut instead. A tiny cameo. He was picked again a week later and never even got off the bench. (Which not sure if that counts as a game played)

He then played Round 8 (Luai was fit) Then wasn't picked again until Round 11. In Round 11 both Luai and May were fit and played NSW Cup. May had been MOTM in his Round 10 return.

So we weren't forced to pick him. Except maybe against Warriors and Sharks. The other 7 times we chose him ahead of Luai and May.

So if there's a bonus clause activated at 10 games they truly f**ked up wasting so many of them at unnecessary times. Should have planned say 5 games for him just to get experience and then banked a few incase.

Although I don't believe that is the issue at all. I dont think Gus and Hook would manage the games poorly like that. Even if Hook doesnt think ahead. Gus definitely does. He knows who he wants to blood and how many gsmes he wants them to have ideally. He would let Hook know if he was f**king the cap up.

Obviously Crichton and Philips couldn't be helped. But we definitely had other options with Egan.

Edit
Egan is only credited with 9 appearances. But he was on the bench against the Eels which would surely mean if he had a 10 game bonus in his contract it has been activated. He was part of 10 games. He just never got on the field in one of them.

How do we know Egan has bonus in his contract? The way franklin talks about it I thought it must be known.

If it’s just speculation then that is such bullshit stop talking about contracts and bonuses if you are just speculating, most of us won’t even believe a reported contract amount unless it backs up our opinions.

I said if. Just trying to state many reasons why a best 17 doesn't take the field. Those who have the details make the decision they are all that matter
