I think they’re better, for the simple reason Griffin hasn’t shown he’s capable of beating the really top teams. This is on the presumption Gould takes a heavy influence over coaching.
Over three years, we haven't done very well against the top sides, especially in 2017. That's why they are the top sides. Most teams don't beat them. Of the current top 4 we've only lost to one of them this year, beaten two and haven't yet played the Storm. I don't thin k this argument holds water this year although it did last year.

It held a lot of water in 2016 and 2017, going back to his time in Brisbane as well.

Funny I saw where this was put to him and he replied they followed it harder once behind. But we know Gus says whatever he needs to say.

Everything Gus said has to be taken with a grain of salt IMO.

Think about how many times he has denied there are issues with hook, he is going nowhere etc and now all of a sudden its all true.

Basically Gus will lie if he thinks its in the best interest of the club.

All that being said he certainly doesn't say anything without there being a reason for it, if he comments about how playing style someone's form its usually a message to someone.

We beat Souths before they got on a roll.

Dragons was an impressive win. But they're in the same boat as us. Great roster held back by a bad coach. Plus theyre not going yo be top 4 once we take their spot.

Roosters destroyed us... and Hook has never coached a team to victory against Bellamy.

We have the resources to be better and Hook refused to use them. The players, staff and board were all put off by him. We won inspite of him. 5 times this year we threw his gameplan out the window and secured victory in games we were destined to lose.

He seemed to be good at getting our players fit though. But maybe the 60 mins of half assed effort helped them with comebacks

Yep, 2016 too. Proves to don't have to beat the top 4 to reach the top 8. An issue with Hook's coaching was not identified in 2016. Seems the great one was happy that year.

There are many times over the back half of 2016 and last year where I was watching our style switch up midgame and thought we had done the same thing. Moylan was definitely just throwing it out as soon as we got behind, wrap arounds and cut out balls are a huge part of his game but not part of our game hardly at all.

They are right now in first place. We beat them. Obviously you cannot be on a roll if you are losing.
They were on a roll of losing games. We beat them in Round 2.

Best team we havr beaten this season. But they certainly werent close to what they are now either.

By seasons end it will be Hooks only victory against a top 4 team since we beat Raiders in 2016 with Soward at 6.

One victory every 2 years. Shit we should have extended his extension

.

Very little for Ivan I think he is a re-builder. I doubt he can win a premiership under him.
I think there are better coaches out there and any decision shouldn't be rushed in

There were issues that year and we were certainly throwing out his game plan, especially post origin when he apparently had his first blow up with Moylan. Remember when Moylan went to another level that year? We all thought it was because of origin but maybe he just stopped trying to play the way hook wanted him too.

I know the style of attack we used to beat the dogs in that semi in 2016 was not Hook, not at all.

If you are going to say we can't beat top sides (and I know it wasn't you today but it frequently is), you can't then make excuses for those times when we do. I could make excuses for the Roosters loss but it doesn't matter, the result still stands.

My judgement is based on the totality of Griffins coaching career, he’s consistently not been able to beat the best.

Broke down these stats last year, his record against top teams is really poor.

If he cannot coach a team to play attacking footy at all, you have to wonder how he even got a gig in the Queensland cup, let alone the Broncos.

Hookhas beaten 3* top 4 sides in 3 years. Its 3 at the moment but very probable that will drop to 2.

In his entire coaching career he has never beaten a top 4 side in a finals match. Not once. Games against better teams are the ones where coaches tactics have a big say in the result.

He is not a good enough coach to change that. Nor is he willing to use the resources we provided him to do that. Gus knew he wasnt good enough and thought he could get around it. But ultimately decided to admit he was wrong.

Wasn’t there some talk that Bellamy’s future with the Storm this year was uncertain. I hate the way the Storm plays but you got to admit that they are very good at what they do.

Edit: Nevermind, just found out that Bellamy re-signed with the Storm.

His style is probably more effective in lower leagues. At the NRL level you have a lot more talented coaches and players investing time figuring out how to beat you.

Also Bennett coaches a simple brand of attacking football, his game plans are pretty basic for the most part. But his players love him.

So who does have a good record against the top teams? The top teams themselves, which we're not one of just yet. The verdict of the one on high is that we were being held back from being a "top team" by the coach. I suggest other factors are involved, like injuries and player experience. I was pretty satisfied to be in the 5-8 bracket and rising, but patience is a very old fashioned quality.
