Ahh yes my mistake... Let's ignore the good done.

We are in a better place now than we were when he started. Some of that has too be him but the team outgrew his capabilities

No one is taking away the good he did. Its just at the end of the day there are winners and there is everyone else. He has never been a winner, why would we hand him the keys to the club and allow him to run the show his own way? That was Goulds original job here and now even he doesn't have that autonomy.

You have to pay your dues, Griffin wants to be treated like he is Wayne bennett but he hasn't won anything, and he doesn't get on well with a lot of people it seems. If you don't have the runs on the board then you aren't going to last of you cant keep people happy. A person like Bennett or Bellamy or Gus chas earned that respect with their achievements and knowledge, Hook hasn't.

Yes he was very good at preparing rookies for first grade, he blooded a lot of kids. It seems like that once those kids had been around for a year or two not many of them wanted to play for him anymore.

Bennett and Griffin are doing the same job though? Why should they not be left to do it and live or die by their sword?

I hope this is learnt from. We pick our next coach that is on the same wave length as everyone else. Give them a goal and let them do their thing and have reviews every 3 months or so. As you would in any other workplace.

Yes there needs to be clearly defined roles before a coach is hired and stick to it.

If he is pissing off numerous staff members and players then why should we just let him keep going? We are losing talent for an unproven coach. Talent on and off the field.

He was already dead mate, they let it go on for as long as they could. They already backed him over Moylan, they gave him every chance. They hired the bloke without talking to anyone, extended him last year for no good reason, They showed so much faith in him and how does it get repaid? With him being stubborn and refusing to adapt anything.

The team has not been winning because of his style, they were binning it as far back as 2016.

Interesting that there is so much focus on who is responsible for what and general glory-hunting. In any organisation, a number of people contribute to any outcome - success has many fathers etc.

Why did we sack Cleary? I believe he was hired as our long term coach. After 4 years rebuilding he may have been getting jaded. Nothing wrong with that, energy/motivation can wane over time. I also suspect there was a conversation regarding how quickly Nathan could be progressed to FG. Ivan, understandably, likely preferred a more conservative approach.

Why did we hire Griffin? To bring juniors, in particularly Nathan, into FG more quickly. Hence, Griffin's pathways comment. If Griffin could also evolve his coaching to win a comp, great! When it became apparent that he couldn't/wouldn't, and that the reported difficulties getting along with staff/players (note Merrin's reaction to being replaced on the weekend) time to reassess.

Should we have made any approach to Ivan yet? Definitely not. This is an error caused by media pressure and relative lack of football experience by the person involved. Legally, we're quite f**ked.

Tigers compensation claim: If it involves 2-3 players we want to keep, including Luai, then I think we let the Clearys go. We can't trade the players unless they agree to go and likely we'd continue to pay part of their salaries as part of the deal.

Reviews would bring these issues up. If at the next review these issues still come up... punt the coach. Aside from that if expectations are being met let them go. How they get there shouldn't matter as long the results are there.

The resigning of Griffin last year is to me the weirdest part, we had the opportunity to handle this very easily with proper performance management but the club upgraded his contract for basically no reason.
Griffin could have finished up this year as you say, contract expired.
fuss would have been a lot less no matter which replacement we go for.

If the rumours are true Bennett will be getting the sack from the final year of his contract also.
I have my doubts he will get much support from people even if he has “ been wronged “ because he is a polarising figure like Gus.

That should be a must. Of course Gus should do his job and check on all staff members at various times across the year but what happens in a trial shouldn't matter if the round 26 expectation is top 4

One interesting thing to note on Griffins player relationships is to listen to the early Denan Kemp podcasts with former players under Griffin. I can remember Corey Norman although giving Griffin praise for giving him his debut, not being very complimentary besides that. Another player who I cant remember also joked about how bad Griffin was.

At the time knowing Chicko and Norman were best mates I knew he wouldnt last long under Griffin either.

Newbie here but a long time (not as long as most of you here though!) proud Panthers supporter. Have been shadowing this forum for a while now and finally decided to join up after the recent turmoil in our club. Here's my 2c on that, whilst I'm no fan of Griffin's coaching philosophy, I feel the way he was treated was pathetic and disgraceful. I understand the game's a pure business now and ethics & morals take a backseat sometimes but to punt him at this stage of the season is pretty poor form on our board's part, whatever the reasons. He definitely deserved to be shown a little more respect and gratitude. If Gus really wanted to I'm sure he could have managed to put this "episode" off until the off season to be dealt with..

The whole Tigers Compensation thing regarding players is absolutely garbage.

The money will not be part of the cap even if monetary compensation is considered.

The players are not cattle to be signed over to anyone we want.

The players union will go nuts if it is ever formally demanded.
