the problem for Anderson is if Jon Jones is in his guard... its not like Chael... Chael can be on top for 5 rounds and you could barely have a scratch on you....

if Jon Jones is on you for 3 good minutes... your gonna end up looking like the elephant man and your more than likely gonna need a blood transfusion.

as for Andersons ground game... im not one to knock a legend like Anderson... but his black belt is openly mocked by some fighters.

Frank Mir has questioned Big Nog's black belts for years.

catching Chael in a triangle doesn't prove your guard is world class. getting caught in a flying scissor heel hook is even worse...

the ground would be an utter massacre if it went that way...

Agree with a lot this dude, and I don't think Anderson is elite on the ground, I said crafty. Bones reach comes into play even more on guard with those bullshit elbows. Still remember him cracking Vera's orbital bone with one shot. Freaking hurt just watching.

Sorry dude but Anderson doesn't just roll with Big Nog. Ramon Lemos is pretty freaking good and he works plenty with Andy. Just dont get the doubt about Big Nog's awarding of belts. Youve no doubt rolled before, No BJJ Teacher/Proffesor is going to give Black out without them actually earning it. Either way Silva no doubt would want to avoid even a minute with Bones in his Guard.

The thing is this news about Jones Vs Sonnen being on tuf is already bigger then the current season(s) going on and there is still 6 months until they fight. The internet can get mad but most will buy this ppv and watch the struggling TUF show. I know I will even though I fully expect Jones to destroy Sonnen.

Yep, gotta admit the moment it was announced I hated the fight that's going to take place at the end but cannot wait for TUF. Just imagine the shit Chael is gonna say spending all that time against Bones. He's already started by saying he did his best to try and convince Bones to back out of it. Wonder of Bones will tell Dana to ask Chael to stop trash talking him lol.

Chael vs Bones on TUF will rival rampage vs rashad in terms of entertainment value. Those two were awesome to watch IMO anyway and it made you look forward to the fight at the end even more which was a pretty ok fight.

Having said that I can jus see chael shutting down Bones with his quick wit at least once or twice per episode. Hell he might even make bones snap, which I doubt.

Would have loved to have seen an Anderson vs Chael TUF aswell for their second fight.

Hope they make it a stacked card.

I'd love to see a bisping/ Chael TUF. IMO bisping is 1000 more quick witted than Chael, compared to bisping Chael almost sounds like he needs an auto cue.

What's everyones view on the future of MMA?

I started watching back in 2000 when I bought the VHS tapes from the centre of the mall and loved it back then and I guess was quietly happy to be one of the few who knew about the sport back then and watched it grow and remember telling people about MMA etc.

I admit the fighters today are on top of their game and the skills they posess are phenomonal but something is missing for me that use to be around in the older days. I use to love the rivalries of the sport and there were so many match ups that I couldn't wait to see. I think the rivalries were more based on personality rather than skill so to speak but I miss rivalries like Tito and Chuck and I guess I miss some of the old school fighters. I'm probably just getting old but something to me seems to be missing from the sport and I can't put my finger on it and I think Dana has headed back in the direction of selling a fight on personality rather than skill. People will buy the Jones/Chael fight even though we know the outcome, but people will want to see it.

Maybe MMA is being saturated too much now wheras in the past events were spread out and you took the opportunity to see an event because you had to wait awhile. I used to wear a tapout shirt before it was popular, now I would not be seen dead wearing one and now Big W are saturating the UFC gear and it reminds me of WWE clothing.

Thats my gripe, am I alone in my thinking? Maybe, oh well.

Anyone got the uk smashes per sale password or a link to buy presale tickets?

Probably a bit late for you but the password was OCTAGON. I googled it. I didn't get the email either. Never got any emails from that newsletter even though I have triple checked I am subscribed.

It was on their facebook and twitter. I'm a fight club member and looked at tickets but they did not put up a seating map so that killed my interest.

The UFC brand was built on "making good fights". But how is a fight good when even casual fans know its a mismatch?
Tito Vs Shamrock ;-)

Snoochies I still do think there are some good "rivalries" around(Personally I'd be super keen for Diaz vs GSP) I just think that the shows before had to be built around these where as now the UFC own nearly every big fighter and run 2, 3 shows a month, it makes it hard for them to really super hype unless you have a guy like Sonnen verbally assaulting everyone. Plus all the injuries/suspensions of late. That JDS/Overeem fight would have been huuuuuge.

Just say this tweet from Helwani
Ariel Helwani ‏@arielhelwani
According to this Sportv story, A. Silva told Brazilian media today he would consider fighting Jones at a catchweight - http://sportv.globo.com/site/evento...ite-luta-com-jon-jones-em-peso-combinado.html
Make it happen! The timing would be hard though given Jones is booked for the next 6 months then would require a whole camp for it. If Silva takes the fight it would have to be sooner rather then later imo.

I'm guessing if GSP beats Condit we will get GSP/Silva superbowl weekend.

I also came across those VHS tapes in the early 2000s and I was instantly hooked. A boxing fan all my life I found myself being swayed by the UFC. You would catch me on the corner preaching the good word of MMA but in the end I didn't find many converts. Nowadays, everybody and their grandmother has got a PHD in the Arts. But the more the UFC became popular, the more I started to distance myself from it. Because whenever something/someone goes Pop it usually loses substance.

Back then the gym/fighter rivalries were intense. The UFC was in its infancy so everybody knew that history was up for grabs. Most fighters had personalities and genuine disdain for their opponents. Now, all the disdain is manufactured and repetitive like "I'm gonna throw him around like a doll, knee him in the face then knock him out". Come fight night, its dump n hump.

Dana White & co have done a tremendous job to get the UFC to where its at today. But I think their monopoly on the sport is a gift and a curse. I think the evolution of the sport is lightning fast and too slow at the same time. I think the influx of fighters (especially on TUF) is creating a wealth of mediocrity in the ranks.

I still love the sport, I just not as obsessed with it as I was a few years ago.

You have said exactly what I was thinking in much better words :)

As you said, everyone has a PHD in MMA and everyone has fought MMA. I called one bloke out here at work as he was spreading his word that he was an MMA fighter and he started doing boxing lessons in our gym. So I went along, and I admit I'm not the greatest boxer in the world but know the basics and this bloke was all over the shop. Looked up his name and nup, nothing. Most MMA shows will have a record of who fought who etc. on the internet.

I think the nail has been hit on the head with the talent pool in the TUF series.
Ive been watching for a number of years as well and took up BJJ purely because of my interest in the UFC after I wanted to learn more about how they get some of the crazier submissions.
But I think with there being now at least 2-3 TUF series a year, we are starting to scrap the bottom of the barrel and I think some of the cards are starting to suffer because of this.
I still think there are genuine rivalries still alive today, but once they have fought and sorted their shit out in the cage, I am fine with them no longer having a rivalry.
They have sorted ou their gripe in the octagon so why continue the hate?

I do agree that everyone has become an expert and you can certainly tell that from the new people that come into the BJJ gym and try to put on knee bars in their first class becuase they have been watching UFC for a couple of years...its annoying but they soon find out the hard way that just because you watch it doesnt mean shit!

I am a rugby league fan/player first and foremost since I was 4 years old and have played the game for 25 years and will continue to play it for a few years to come but I still love MMA, not just the UFC. The discipline required for preparation to even step inside a cage in phenominal, let alone having the stones to actually fight.

I think the allure of MMA is so great that it causes grown men close to or in their 30's to think they can do it and the UFC gives them the chance to do so via TUF. I for one don't want to watch those guys....ever.

When I say the evolution of the sport is too slow I mean the kids currently training, slowing honing their skills, properly progressing at the right speed to become well rounded professionals can't come grow quick enough. Jon Jones only started training MMA for 5 years before he entered the UFC. In no way should any sane minded person think they can replicate a freak of nature.

I think in 10 years time there will be a couple of Jones' and Silvas in every division and the only thing separating them will be things like heart, will and a chin. 10 second knockouts will become a thing of the past as stand up offence/defence evolves. And hopefully we won't see anymore 30 year olds making their debut.

Age is a funny thing in the fight game. Randy I guess started in his mid 30's (I think) and was at the top of his game in his late 30's early 40's whereas someone like Wanderlei in his mid 30's is ready for retirement. Big Nog (36) is someone who looks alot older than he is. I guess the more you get punched in the face the quicker you age.

I agree though, would love to see in the future divisions filled out with Jones'/Silvas etc.

TUF has been rocked with 3 controversial decisions by the judges. The latest one was unbelievable. Anyone catch it?

Had him dominated, ha his back, body triangle and everything and still lost the round, the judges must've been watching something else

Half the English team caught using a mobile phone. Should have booted them! All the Aussie light weights are f**king undersized. Why go out and get a heap of flyweight and featherweight fighters?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkN8V2Xogsw - if you don't get it. It went on for like 6 minutes. BRUTAL

Also I think the UK guys got lucky that it was UK guys in Aus. If they did that on a USA tuf they would get booted and replaced quickly. No way right before the last fight dana would fly 5 new fighters across the world and f**k the season up like that.
