The AFL Grand Final replay is a massive game which will draw a crowd upwards of 70,000. Could very well be a Grand Final preview. Two quality teams in a finals warm up. Bullcheats vs Penriff is a very meh matchup that will struggle to draw 20,000. Two mediocre teams that will be fighting over top 8 scraps. Sydneysiders will vote with bums on seats. Not hard to figure out which match is the bigger event.
this coming from an AFL fan

when was the last time the pink poofs got 70k to a game especially a regular season game?

edit

twice in their history http://stats.rleague.com/afl/crowds/swans.html#03

What are the Swans averaging? 30k roughly I think.

Dogs v Panther won't get 20k, and considering it is the AFL GF repley you'd expect an above average crowd.

Can anyone explain why Belmore has been taken off the menu as on option of where to play the match. I know it isn't up to NRL standard per the guidelines but if they can host matches at Mudgee and Mackay then surely Belmore could be an option too?
Belmore only has a capacity of 25,000 - I assume they want this game to be at a stadium that can host more than that which is why they'll probably move it to another day rather than another ground.

They average 42,602 at ANZ but 1 v 3 in a grand final replay will get at least 60k IMO. It's quite obvious that there is something in the contracts and booking of the stadium that gives the AFL precedence over the NRL. Put it at Belmore though and it would over shadow the AFL regardless of the crowd

We aren't going to get anymore then 25,000 though if it is held out at ANZ. Might as well play at Belmore and get the bigger crowd and more publicity as it will be the first match there in 15 years or so.

EDIT: Just had a thought do they film in HD even though it is broadcast on an SD channel? Maybe the lighting isn't up to scratch for the TV broadcast in that case

Not on a Fri night Melbourne fans can't fly up.

That aside I have a ticket to the game. Wouldn't ANZ of said something pre ticket sale stage? something strange is going on

Swans are averaging 24k and dogs around 22k if my memory serves me correct. Who is more important to anz stadium, the swans or the bulldogs, the nrl or the afl?

What?

So is choosing the AFL game going to make the NRL not play at ANZ??? Lol gtfoh.

EDIT: Don't get me wrong i'd rather the Dogs V Panthers game wasn't moved but since the nrl seemingly did f**k all about it what do you expect.

betcats - hutch has the Swans average home crowd for the year. I had Swans average crowd for all matches held at ANZ which I thought would be more relevant as they only play their high drawing matches there.

the fact tickets went on sale means that ANZ approved the game and it was booked in correctly

at the time there was no AFL game scheduled so they had no reason not to do so

The game won't be played at Belmore because the facilities don't cater to the corporates well enough

we don't have adequate sporting venues and the Government is pushing for centralised stadiums

nobody wants ANZ to be one of them

In who's opinion are they not "adequate"?

Are people spilling out of the seats because of capacity concerns? Are players being injured because of poor playing surfaces?

Adequate stadiums no way infers quality stadiums.

During the next few months, the NSW state government will begin investigating its options for the investment strategy they announced last year, which didn't include funding to upgrade the dilapidated suburban grounds.

The report that Annesley tabled outlined a plan to invest in major sporting venues like ANZ Stadium and Allianz Stadium, as well as the construction of a new ground in western Sydney or the redevelopment of either Parramatta Stadium, Centrebet Stadium or Campbelltown Stadium.
