I'd say he is either gauging the interest for AFL in the states or getting ideas for the AFL from the big american sports....in other words he is taking an all expenses paid holiday.

From memory of what I have read it was to do with club equalisation and meeting with the NFL to learn how they do it.

The Bulldogs have the stadium leased until 2020. Having first priority of the stadium means this shit shouldn't even be an issue. I guess no one from Stadium Australia Group thought about that!

Are you sure the Bulldogs have this as a clause in their stadium lease contract? Somehow I doubt it given what has transpired in the past week.

There's talk that the game will be switched to Saturday, with Nine choosing a Saturday game to move to Friday.

Of the three Saturday games, one is Warriors vs Raiders so we can forget about that. The others are Tigers vs Souths and Manly vs Storm.

Now, given the choice between a game that is 15th vs 1st and a game that is 3rd vs 4th, I think it's pretty obvious to everyone which game Nine would be pushing hard for....

](*,)

Do you think Fox would want to give up Manly v Melbourne? Not a chance in hell of that happening

The article in the telegraph today says the AFL has the stadium booked for the friday and saturday since last October. The nrl never checked the stadiums availability before releasing the round.

ANZ obviously gave the NRL the nod as they allowed them to sell tickets

they would not sell tickets if ANZ had told them they could not use it on that night

What night? It hasn't been announced as far as I'm aware it's on Thursday or Saturday.

I agree with Big Sam, put it on Thursday at ANZ to rip up the turf for the fumbleball game the next night

What night?

the Friday night it was originally scheduled for

there was nothing else scheduled for that night at the time the NRL or Bulldogs would have booked the ground

they obviously were told it was OK by ANZ as they allowed them to sell tickets

you can't sell tickets without their permission

Just play the bloody game at Belmore. The feelgood factor will rob the AFL of any publicity and I bet the dogs will get just as many at the kennel as at Homebush approx 15-16000.

We are talking Origin, GF & Prelim finals at the most.

SCG will hold 50k when finished. put some temporary seating to square it off add an extra 10k (remember ANZ full only has 37k GA anyway) .The view would be no worse the right at the top of ANZ. The rest will fit in Allianz

Build an actual RL stadium west to be the 2nd staduim. Then we will see if ANZ find more tennants certainly wont for 30 odd weeks. Souths & Bulldogs should always have priority.

Sounds like a good plan. But how to get a new stadium approved when there is already a giant one, barely used (in context) in "Western Sydney"

If the NRL could finance a RL only stadium in the West it would improve alot of things, but really it is wasted funding whilst there is an adequate, though flawed, solution in place.

Your idea has merit as long as this stadium services both the NRL, NSW Cup and Local league games. This would be the sticking point IMO. However a 25K RL stadium has alot of promise.

You could allow other sports like Soccer use it as well. Though like AFL with Etihad RL has 1st rights and controls catering etc. The SCG would only need to be for a season or so then ANZ will come crawling back giving us a better deal

I completely agree. However there are large issues.

No government funding would be available, as we have plenty of 'adequate' sporting venues in Sydney. It would need to be approved by some level of government if it were to go ahead, and that would probably rest largely on the contributions towards building and maintaining the stadium.

Sure the NRL could provide the funds, but really they are better served elsewhere when we already have plenty of venues.

It seems to me that we are stuck with Homebush, Moore Park and upgrading existing suburban grounds.

They want to go to centralised stadiums. I don't agree but if that's the plan we need a better facility then ANZ and Allianz.

The tram to Allianz is a help but still no parking and still an hour minimum to the western Suburbs.

ANZ is just too big and poor viewing

A 35k seater roofed in the west is the only way to ensure this is a success.

Pplease remember my earlier post ( around 1am today ) that the round 26 Broncos v Bulldgos game won't be on Thursday night, so that makes the re-scheduling of the round 25 game easier ( bigger break between games ).

The details are a bit foggy from the number of beers, but this is what I remember. One of the guys in the bar said he had a mate at the NRL who told him the round 26 Broncos v Bulldogs game won't be on Thursday because Channel 9 have already used their quota of Thursday night games for this season.

we don't have adequate sporting venues and the Government is pushing for centralised stadiums

nobody wants ANZ to be one of them

Are you assuming that because Canterbury have a lease on the stadium until 2020, that they should have first priority?

Unless that is a specific clause in the deal, Canterbury don't have shit.

What gives AFL power over the NRL, considering we're permanent tenants, whereas the Swans are occasional tennants?

The AFL Grand Final replay is a massive game which will draw a crowd upwards of 70,000. Could very well be a Grand Final preview. Two quality teams in a finals warm up. Bullcheats vs Penriff is a very meh matchup that will struggle to draw 20,000. Two mediocre teams that will be fighting over top 8 scraps. Sydneysiders will vote with bums on seats. Not hard to figure out which match is the bigger event.

Yeah I think Stadium Australias preference would come down to this.

What are the Doggies gonna do? Play their home games somewhere else?

This does seem to be piss poor from the NRL though, how did they not realise there was a clash?

Can anyone explain why Belmore has been taken off the menu as on option of where to play the match. I know it isn't up to NRL standard per the guidelines but if they can host matches at Mudgee and Mackay then surely Belmore could be an option too?
