Dylan Brown extends to end of 2025 with player options till the end of 2031

imagine having 6 years of salary cap dependant on whether a player decides to stay or not?

And how much that affects the rest of the team! Wondering what he decides each year?

Parra dug their own grave there.

I watched a bit of the world club challenge and I thought Sione looked good for St Helens.
I tried to pinpoint what it was but I think it’s just the fact he looked comfortable in his role. Finally seeing the rewards with him by keeping him in one position and allowing himself to work on it.

The current game suits him with his footwork and how powerful and quick he can’t hit the line.

Not sure how he’s going with concussions lately but I wouldn’t be so opposed to bringing him back after what I saw.

If he comes back on a cheapie contract and replaces Jones or John's, I think it's a win/win. He has won 2 premiership there already and looked competent against the Panthers!

The truth is even the Sione that left was a better footballer than at least half a dozen blokes on our roster.

No-one can sit there and think that we're better off with Phoenix Crossland or Jack Johns on the books. That's how far we've fallen.

Hell, we're in such a bad spot i'd have him over one of our potential starters (Fitzgibbon). THAT'S how bad we're doing. Fitz is every bit as bad a defender as Sione, but at least Sione can put the odd bellringer on and never had his effort questioned.

Sione was stuffed around by Brown and his endless quest to manufacture a player who was both a backrower/centre to cover for injuries mid game.

I’d have him back in a heartbeat if the coach put him in the backrow and kept him there.

Sione was buggered by Stone and Bennett

Should have been left on the wing and eventually moved to the centres when he was ready.

I can see Sione returning next season. I have contact with his immediate family and they have suggested that it has been floated to some degree. How far I have no idea.

Might give up on the knights all together if I have to watch Sione stink it up for one more second.

Lot of froth after one pre-season performance, I thought trials didn't mean anything?
You'd be offering Curtis Sironen a million bucks a year as the best back rower in the world based on that one game.

It depends on who’s coaching as well. At least with Browny we knew we had a coach who knew exactly what he wanted in a player. The current one seems almost detached from the recruitment process.

lol calm down buddy no-one is saying get the chequebook out, just that he's legitimately better than a lot of pretenders we have now. It's a savage indictment of the current status quo - and a big red sign saying that we've gone a looooong way backwards.

2 things:

a. Don't think anyone is suggesting throwing big $ at a bloke who would likely come back to play at home for peanuts. As suggested by pervy, he's at the very least more capable than at least 1 of our starters and certainly all of our depth back rowers

b. It may have been played in preseason but it was anything but a trial. 18 man squads, 8 interchanges, Penrith publically coming out in the media saying they wanted to win this game badly. Both teams came to play and Sione had a f**king blinder. I dunno if he can do that week in week out over here but it's pretty clear he's improved as a player since leaving

Sione was just adequate on the weekend, nothing flash. Why the hell would you bring in more mediocre/ordinary
players when we already have a ton of them. It`s exactly like resigning Gagai & thinking you were going to get a better result than the first time, that was a masterstroke. I don`t know what the answer is, we turn decent players to crap, have an absolute specimen for a coach who obviously nobody wants to play for as he`s clueless. At least the smart ones are jumping ship to clubs that have some sort of direction & where they can actually learn something & improve. I don`t think any of our kids will ever see a Knights premiership

Not sure what game you watched but Sione along with Sironen and Walmsley absolutely bashed the Penrith pack off the park. 20 runs for 175m is a very good knock, nothing "adequate, ordinary or mediocre" about it.

Plenty of questions around if he could bring that form back with him sure but credit where it's due bro

It all comes down to $$$ at the end of the day, Sione coming back for around $250K would be a handy pickup and he would be ahead of a few of our current backup options.

$250k?? That would be a massive bargain.

$11.45m salary cap divided by 30 is roughly $380k per player. If we get a player (who is also a local junior) who can run 20 times for 175m against a Penrith side for $250k, that might just be the best bang for buck deal we've pulled off in a decade.
